My very first homepage!

I decided to try building my own homepage at GeoCities. Here’s what I have done so far. Whatcha think?

http://www.geocities.com/magical_silver_key/MSK.index.html

I KISS YOU!

Uh, MSK, your link doesn’t work when I click on it. Maybe its just me. Oh, well. I did cut’n’paste though.

What a cutie! Smerp It is a pretty good homepage. Mine doesn’t give you much info, except for the fact that I am on the wrong side of insanity.

[sub]And now you know that I have been on the Placebo forum way too much because I am starting to incorporate the way they speak into the way I write. Aaaaah!!![/sub]

Another M.C. Escher lover, yeah!

**A few observations: **

I think you should change the blue text with the underlines. It looks like they should be hyperlinks. I personally know somebody who would click on those repeatedly, then insist that there’s something wrong with her computer.

I would remove some of the thick horizontal lines. You’re the artist, but I just think they’re too distracting.

The photograph looks like it was taken with a toy camera that came free inside a box of cheesy-poofs.

You introduce yourself way down after one thick blue bar, three thick yellow bars, a photograph, your IM status, and then only in the left column. I think the introduction should be more prominent.

The map should have some sort of caption (“This is where I live the hell that is my life” or whatever)

Stuff to add:

A catchy headline. “Alan’s Abode” with a graphic of an abode, or something like that.
A gallery of your artwork and writings.
Hyperlinks. For example “Stephen King” could link to stephenking.com. Links to local pages (Mishawaka.com, or whatever), links to your favorite sites, etc.
Pictures of your pets.
A “Latest News” section.
A feedback section.
Porn

And get rid of that stupid plugin error that pops up when the page loads.

MSK- Nice job, congrats and I see no plug in errors using IE. I do agree with Baraqiyal on the blue text,it does look like a link.Keep up the good work. I have a web page I have been working on for a few years(linked below) and man did I learn alot- A historical not a fun site.

Nice job, but I’ll second Baraqiyal’s suggestions. I also get the plug-in error and I am running IE 5.0.

The webpage that I had up was experimental and is not going to be the final product. I’ll take some of the points advised into consideration.

Sounds to me like the images are going to the big “issue.”

Sorry, that’s the best I can come up with right now with what I have available. That photo was taken using a friend’s Logitech Quickcam. I don’t personally own a digital camera, webcam, or scanner, so what you see is what you get. I can’t afford to go buy any of those, presently.

The only other pic of myself available is very outdated, it doesn’t represent the way I look presently, and is quite bland. You can see the OLD pic at the The Straight Dope People Pages.

As for the plug-in error, I have no idea how that happened.

My homepage will be down for modifications as of 2pm EST 08-21-01

That, possibly, explains why I can’t get to the page. Oh, well.
