My wife and I are now land barons

…or so my friend says: “Anyone who owns 3 separate properties is a land baron.” :stuck_out_tongue:

Mrs. AG and I just signed up for (gulp) our second Bay Area mortgage since her mother will be moving out to live in the condo we finalized the paperwork on this morning. She just turned 71 and while we knew she would probably move out eventually, this was much sooner than we were anticipating (she let us know of her intentions last month). Still, it’ll be good to have her nearby (she’s 1/2-mile from our house) so we’ll be close once her health begins to worsen (she can live independently right now, but does have some mobility problems that portends of future complications).

The 3rd property is the house she currently lives in in So. Illinois, which we’re keeping and letting our niece and her 2 daughters move into once her grandma has moved out.

Not so incredibly, the condo we bought has 1/3 of the sq. footage that her house has, but cost 10x as much. At least our CPA is thrilled that we have a write-off for this fiscal year–now we just have to make sure our excellent contractors (shameless plug) can get in and do the modest upgrades before the big move after Thanksgiving.

whew!
