I have no motivation today. Had ice cream, it was good. Too much sugar, I’m tired, well, ok I was tired before the ice cream.
mmmm…Chinese food…I’m going to a Chinese wedding this weekend. Has anyone ever been to one? Is there anything I should know? (Advanced warning of customs like breaking dishes and hoisting people in chairs in the air would be appreicated or things not to do/wear etc.) The reception is to be held at a (yes, you guessed it) Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. Food should be good.
Hawkeyeop and I are looking for transportation to go to Philly in a few weeks…pricing trains, planes, buses and combinations there of is not fun IMO. Ugh.
I had chili for lunch, and Nat slept through lunchtime, so he gets extra (hah!) nursing and an early dinner. I think he’s still getting 3/4 of his calories from me, but we do keep working on solids. It’ll be easier if he ever grows into finger food…
Baking is done, and I think I want a froufrou chocolate or coffee drink, so we might head out in a few minutes. Or I’ll just ask Mr. Lissar to bring me one on his way home from work.
mousie, the only Chinese wedding I’ve been to was a Jewish/Chinese wedding… I’m pretty sure the lifting up in chairs and flying around in circles came from the Jewish side of things, but I can’t make any promises.
All kidding aside, though, from what I’ve been told, Chinese weddings pretty much revolve around the wedding banquet - prepare yourself for what will probably be the best Chinese meal you’ll ever have in your entire life. As for etiquette, just try to avoid stabbing things with chopsticks and you’ll be fine.
Oh, and one last tip… f you’re not sure what a particularly yummy dish is made of, don’t ask. You may not want to know the answer.
(for your sake, I hope there isn’t any karaoke at the reception… the Chinese karaoke I’ve been subjected to sounds a lot like two cats in a burlap sack being clubbed repeatedly with a baseball bat)
I think I’m going to make apple crisp to have for dessert tonight. I bought apples over the weekend and then a coworker came in and brought a bunch of apples because she’d picked a LOT at her grandmother’s over the weekend. So now I have a lot of apples.
taxi apple crisp is neither mundane or pointless. It is however, stuff you must share. HA! I crack me up!
I have some neighbor news to catch up on in a bit. Y’all remember my neighbor with Alzheimer’s? Well, he went to the VA hospital in Dublin, GA (yes there is one) to see a doctor because his wife is trying to get him in a VA place as he’s been getting worse and worse. Well, she left him there. I don’t know details and don’t know how that came to be but Ima go find out shortly.
Also, I am goin’ to be in soooooo much trouble with JoeDawg’s daddy. JoeDawg is hooked on death chicken bacon and rice. I have a little bit left over that I’ll send home tomorrow. JoeDawg snarfed down his supper once again. I swear I thought he was gonna eat through the bottom of his bowl!
Heh. I think I missed my younger best friend’s birthday (Southern Girl). I think everything got a little crazy because her daughter was born about 2 weeks before her birthday. Oops.:smack:
Well, you could always bring her a pie. HAH! I get funnier and funnier!
Ok, indeed, my neighbor did leave her husband at the VA place. They told her to bring some clothes and let him stay a few days just to see how he’d do. When they got there they told her they had a permanent bed for him. I think she’s feeling a little guilty. She talked to him a little while ago and said he was crying and complaining about not feeling good and wanting to come back home. We talked for a bit about it and what I had to say was he needed time to adjust. She’s going over on Saturday to see him and taking the dog (that’s JacquesBear for those of you who play along and remember) because they told her it was ok to bring him, which is a good thing. I’m worried she’ll want to bring him back. That worries me because he is getting worse and within the next year it looks like he’ll really be at a point where it will be impossible to care for him at home and there might not be a space for him then. As awful as that sounds, it’s a reality she needs to consider. I’m sure the folks at the VA will be able to talk with her about it and hopefully work with her because it’s a transition for her as much as it is for him.
Alzheimer’s sucks!
Puggy I forgot to say this earlier. Mom also made food for their (mom’s and dad’s) dogs. She made a combo of lean ground beef, rice and veggies much like you do a couple times a week. They loved it and the vet was most pleased with it too.
Quite slowly. Between the highway and my house (about 3 and a half miles) there are 21 properties for sale, 10 of which have been for sale for more than a year. However, most are premium type places: large lots, large newer houses, lake or riverfront, etc. I am hopeful that there will be more people showing interest in my place. I am in town, less than 1/4 acre, and I am asking quite a bit less than what it will appraise out to, I just want to cover what I still owe, and some moving expenses. I love thistownand want to come home to it again, someday, but for now…
JoeDawg’s daddy’s gonna have to call the Animal Cops on you. Giving his dog skritches and giving him Death Chicken bacon-n-rice…I’m shocked (:eek:shocked!) that you gleefully admit to such cruel and unusual treatment of puppies!
Okay, I’m gonna cheat here and show you some pictures I took during a snow day 2 (or maybe 3) years ago.
Here’s a shot of downtown looking East.
Here’s a shot of downtown looking West.
Here’s our house.
Here’s one of my work spaces.
Another work space.
Another work space for keeping the books and programming.
A sometimes work space.
A picture just for Bobbio.
A picture of our dogVinnie, just because.
I hafta go now and get Vinnie from the real estate office 'cause he’s driving Wifey crazy.
{{{{{Soapy}}}}} umm…why are you called ‘Soapy’, if I may ask?
Bumba, your house is adorable. I’d love to have me one of those one day, gingerbread trim and all.
swampus, sorry to hear about this latest development with your neighbours. It’s really hard to finally admit that it’s too difficult to care for them at home… I know it was like that with our family when my grandmother’s dementia got too bad for her to live on her own anymore. She’s awful lucky to have someone like you there to hold her hand while she adjusts.
The Boy is working late once again, and since I was tired of scrounging around in the fridge for leftovers, I decided to actually cook something proper-like. I ended up tossing together a lemony artichoke sauce with whole wheat pasta and presto! I got din-din. It’s ridiculously good, if I do say so myself.
Nice pictures, Bumba! I’d seen the one you put in for Bobbio (I think it was just after I’d joined the MMP), but not the rest. I’ve uploaded my pics to the laptop and will be uploading them to Photobucket shortly, I hope.
Sounds like it was an impressive service, Soapy. Hope you, your family and Paula’s family are learning to cope and heal. More hugs.
I’d like a lunch, too, Pie.
Glad he slept better, LiLi. You’re one of the reasons I want to go to Toronto, of course. It’s funny to think of all the places we have friends we’ve never met IRL, isn’t it?
Gaaaaaah, I’m so far behind! Hugs and boos all around!
My boss is awesome. We’re incredibly short-handed for various good reasons at the moment. I’m going out of town for the weekend in a couple of weeks, I asked for it four months ago (I work at least one day every weekend), but we had several other people around four months ago. I was assured that she’d make it work somehow and I don’t need to worry about it, I should “get out of the valley” and go to the mall anyway. g It’s a lovely valley but after awhile everybody gets kinda antsy and just wants to go to Target or something…I said I was willing to come in for a few hours that Saturday morning if it came down to it, but the offer was refused.
I need to bring her chocolate.
If anybody needs a job and is willing to move to off-the-beaten-path in Idaho and learn an oddly antiquated computer program, we could use you!
Bumbie–what do you do that you require all those workspaces? I love your house–it looks like the one Anne Shirley would have lived in.
Work was nice until about 4pm when it got insanely busy and stayed that way. Quitting time for me should have been 430pm. I couldn’t just leave my coworker, so I finally left at 630pm. Gah.
And tomorrow is Friday–no fun day for me. Have I mentioned recently how much I dislike working Fridays? The Annoying Coworker who well, annoys me; the Other Annoying Coworker who is better, but leaves on the dot of 430pm, no matter what?
Well, I do. Hate working them, I mean.
Off to watch political theater–I must say this election is now fun to watch!
So, the** Taters** household has grown because we obtained more pets. Today, the hubby went out and purchased two parrot fish and my daughter, after seeking both of our permission, bought two society finches. She has the cage set up in her room. I told her it’s totally her responsibility for the care and feeding of them. She did purchase the birds, cage and supplies with her own money.
I’m TAHRED. I didn’t get home until close to seven. Well, I was home around
5:15, but then I turned right around and took my daughter to the pet store and then we stopped at the grocery store.
Bah, I was so hoping to come home and relax. Dinner is a big time cheat; Stouffers individual meat loaves and Stouffers Mac and Cheese. Not nutritionally ideal, I know, but I’m just too tired to want to even think about cooking. My daughter and husband had burgers and fries for lunch, so I couldn’t do that tonight either. Tomorrow night we’ll eat the right way again.
So, I’ve created several little albums, with a few bonus, not exactly in my neighborhood, pictures. If you just want to wander around, here’s the MMP Homework album; the pictures are in 4 sub-albums (links are on the left side of the page in the “Albums” box).
More neighborhood pictures from just after Ike blew through here. I didn’t realize I’d gotten a picture of the police car that stopped by after the first third of the neighbor’s tree fell down. The second third fell where the car had been only a few minutes earlier. It was really interesting just walking around, seeing what had fallen, what had been cleaned up. I live on a rather odd street. One block has VERY nice houses that were built by industrialists in the early 20th century. Several of them qualify as mansions. The block I live in has more modest homes (mine is the smallest and most modest); some are quite nice, but it’s pretty firmly anchored in the middle class. The next couple of blocks are mostly rentals, although some of them have started to turn into condos.
I work downtown, just a few blocks north of the Ohio Statehouse, which is where the Governor has his office and the General Assembly meets. I’d never taken a proper tour of the place, though, until my vacation last month. It’s very interesting. There are two concrete walls outside that have the text from soldiers’ letters home engraved in them. I didn’t read them all, but read enough that I was tearing up. I hope you can read some of them in my pictures. The Statehouse itself has some interesting architectural features. It’s the only capitol building built in the Greek Revival style. The tours are free and definitely worth it (assuming all the tour guides are as good as the one I had…). There’s lots of information on their website. Here are fun facts about it, for example. WARNING: There are sound files on some of the pages, particularly when you click on the link to the main statehouse page. Here’s info on the Statehouse from Wikipedia.
One last thing: You know you’re a Mumper if you can identify this main dish.
More hugs for Soapy; it’s a heck of a thing for your daughter to go through also, so glad that you’re there to hug her and hold her.
Bumba, some pretty pics there–love the trains pic, and Vinnie is a cutie. Thanks for sharing.
GT, great job on the homework!!! It’s incredible to think that Ike did so much damage, so far, isn’t it?!
Finally did grocery shopping this afternoon. Gah, it’s not a chore I enjoy doing -after- work. We’re getting a bit of the coastal storm that’s battering NC…I hope that Doggio and Spaz are ok.
And at last, tomorrow is Firday. And can I say how much I’m missing Haze?! I do, especially on Firdays!
