Yawn! Got up early, went hot springing with my daughter, took power nap, have few wordings! mindless snorgle
FBI? CIA?
ETA–what’s going on with my capital letters? Sometimes they’re there and sometimes they aren’t…
Where’d my caps go in your quote???
I come bearing amusement for the night shift. The things I do for you people. ![]()
And yes, the bit about the diapers is true. My other sister’s friends tp’d her car at her wedding. That actually worked out well because everyone followed the trail of shredded toilet paper out of the park where the ceremony was held. Who needs Mapquest when you have Charmin?
I must win the lottery to finance my life of sloth and debauchery. Speaking of which, I’m tailgating tomorrow before the game. Maybe I even get to see a win. Or an injury free game. Or a flock of flying pigs and pink elephants. Equal chance.
: snorgles Smartie back :
Welcome Agent J! Special Agents goat and quid need to meet you in Interrogation Room 304.
Go get 'em VBob!
Here, kitty, kitty!
Good one, Spaz. Oh, we’re having a gas shortage in Raleigh now.
So which was it?. . . dinner or the family?
If you did one, then you might not have to do the other.
This is my Saturday night post and my night duty shift assignment.
Hey everyone! ~wave~
swampy, congrats on the mortgage-free state. . . little late, but I’ve been thinking about it since then. Must be quite a relief.
Welcome, AgentJ!
Hey, Roo! Long time no see!
:Hugs Roo, gropes in the process ;):
**Spaz **-- **Ivory **got the Apple-in-honey description down pat. It’s really, simply, just slices of apple that you dip in a dish of honey. Simple and yummy as well as symbolic
Also, in addition to the round hallah Ivory already mentioned, a slightly less pleasant tradition (which we therefore don’t follow :D) is to eat a fish’s head (“so that we may be the head and not the tail in this new year.”)
Funny satire as always, too!
**Special AJ – are you a long lost relative or something?
Welcome, in any case. I have been to Scotland several times, and love it. Yes, even Aberdeen

As I type, the Door Installers are finally Installing All the Doors – so my teenage daughter will actually have a door on her room when she gets here for New Year’s vacation this evening! (as will my son, who has gone without over the weekend! It was a mess in general, but I think it’s just about over…)
OK, I’ll stop the smiley abuse now and return you to your regularly scheduled Cooking Channel activities
Holy guacamole - I went all day yesterday without getting on the computer - at all!! Of course, most of the day was spent at labor, ending with dinner out because I was too pooped to cook. Then I came home and labored some more because daughter needed the computer to do her lesson plans (their computer won’t be ready till Tues)…
Anyway, **FCD **and daughter got the floor installed in the bedroom - it looks niiiiiiice. SIL and I started drywalling the stairwell so we could install the door at the base of the stairs, plus we installed the door to the laundry room - that was an adventure! Finally, when we got back from Famous Dave’s, I finished installing the plugs in the bedroom.
Today, there’ll be a tiny bit of touch-up paint in the bedroom, the fan will be installed, as will the doors (I hope) and the base molding. And the TV bracket. **FCD **intends to finish the bathroom today also. Depending upon how things go, they’ll be able to get all moved in downstairs this week. Then we’ll have to finish the living room and kitchen.
We’ve had 2 days of nice rain - one and off, never extremely heavy, so it has time to soak in. Plus my car is now cleaner.
The temps have been cool, occasionally chilly, and one evening, I actually closed the house up. I looked at one of the random catalogs that come in the mail, and I saw a sweatsuit on sale that looks like the perfect lounge-about-the-house outfit. I’m thinking I’ll get 2. Daughter wants one also. So I’ll be placing an order soon.
Other than that, life as usual. All the recipes in here look wunnerful - I’m so glad they’re all going into a blog so I don’t have to try to catalog them myself. One of these days when things settle, I’ll cook again!
Sickies, get well! swampy, we all know your kind of sick can’t be cured, but have a nice day anyway! doggio, get some rest! Everybody else, I promise I read what you posted - it just didn’t stick specifically and I’m not going to attempt to go back and sort you all out. So hugs, smoochies, and gropes as desired.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. Plus snark! YAAAAAAY!!!
Not much goin’ on at da cave. We went to a bday party for a five year old yesterday. We got dindin out of it even. I was not expecting that. 'Twas good! Grilled chicken, corn on the cob, mac & cheese and sallit. Plus cake and ice cream! It was all win-win! Then we came back to da cave and sorta crashed. As in, I was asleep by 9:30.
I need to get in gear I guess. I did promise to bring ye olde laptop to church again today to give folks one more chance to do the survey about the new Bishop. I swear, though, if it were not for that fact, I’d be sorely tempted to go back to bed for a while. Oh well, I could probably do with some de-heathenizin’.
Later Y’all!
Afternoon all. Welcome AgentJ! I am home early as my headcold has now turned into a nasty upper respiratory tract infection that won’t let go!
gt, link away to my piccie of the eevil fritters!
I am hoping the day after tomorrow will be Eid, but it will all depend on the Moon Sighting Committee’s report tomorrow evening - if see moon, then no more Ramadhan, but if no see moon, then 6 more weeks of winter … or something like that!
I am off to lay down for a while now (a nappy poo, as swampus is wont to call it, although for me, nappy means diaper, so a nappy poo is not what I would call my afternoon snooze!).
Bob, I’m glad you’re throwing the book at her.
Morning. Blurf, Tired. Trying to get Nat down for a nap, Mr. Lissar is gone all day. Can’t focus eyes yet because I was up four times in the night, and got up at six.
Will do chores later.
Afternoon guys!
Thanks for all the welcomes!
eleanorigby I bet anything that your town is much nicer place to live!
Noone Special Next time your here we’ll need to do lunch!
The out break is on my face unfortunately which means I cannot hide it with clothing (unless I try to introduce snoods to everday fashion!). Today I am going to for a drive, will probably stop at Macky D’s and will continue to bitch about having to work on Tuesday. I may do some new job hunting also as I am not happy with the upcoming arrangements my area manager has made. Essentially I used to work at branch ‘a’ but due to the bullying and crappy shifts I was forced to do I got a transfer to branch ‘b’. Branch ‘a’ is loosing money so has to merge with my branch, branch ‘b’. This means crappy shifts and having to work with the bullys again. I could probably deal with the horrible hours but I am not ready to face the name calling, bitching and overall rudeness of the bullies. sigh
Anyhoo so what do the rest of you guys have planned for the rest of the weekend (well whats left of it!!)

Oh and Special Agents goat and quid - wow! What a welcome!
I am making Crash Hot Potatoes for breakfast. Well, just one, in the microwave and then toaster oven, because they sounded good. I also posted a link in the blog since several people have made them. I’m thinking I’ll go ahead and post links when people mention them so that we don’t have the same problem we used to have with finding recipes people had shared in their posts. Also, I added a link to Dotty’s picture. Couldn’t see it when I linked it as an image (might have been a Firefox/AdBlock issue), so I just linked for the moment.
Hey, Agent J, sorry about the job stress. Can’t help much with the acne question - I think rigs is right, if it’s that severe, I’d see a doc. Seems like a level where (in the U.S. at least) they sometimes prescribe antibiotics. And yes, this is kind of a haven from the rest of the board. We also view it as a public service since it prevents lots of one-post threads. Take a look at FCM’s sig sometime. That explains it all. (Oh, and ask if you can’t figure out nicknames. Some of them are…obscure.
Off to eat breakfast, then de-heathenize, then laundry and general tidying. And then gardening and painting, I think.
GT
I missed that, interesting typo in Special1’s post!
Hi** Roo**!!! Missed you!
Special1- fish head? Not a Rosh Hashana tradition round this tower! (and, confession time, I hate carrot tsimmis and always have. And honey cake.). Now my mom’s homemade, freshly prepapred from whole fish, gefilte fish… that’s the best!
I think I want to make Dotty’s fritters…
All about Rosh Hashana Food Customs – some of which I was completely unaware of, too! And yes, it appears that gefilte fish works, too ![]()
**AgentJ **-- your suggestion is amusing, since one of my nicknames here *is “Lunch” (a result of the suggestion once made that I had misspelled “noon” when choosing my handle – an idea I endorse but hadn’t thought of at the time! ;))
- “Noon Special” being, I am told, American slang for a “quickie” during one’s lunch hour

One potato is not enough.
Mornin’ all
Cinnamon rolls from a can this morning for breakie. Yes, I know how bad they are. I’m lazy, and they sounded good.
Orange vanilla icing is included in the can even. They’re Halloween cinnamon rolls. I also got the stuff to make the Pumpkin cake that Taxi posted because it sounds yummy. Dunkin’ Donuts has their Pumpkin muffins now; we had some for breakie yesterday. They are the YUM!!
Today is the day of the afore mentioned Chinese wedding. Hawkeyeop wants to drive there – which of course means me driving because he doesn’t. So, we got a car to go. Wish me luck. I have no idea where it is or how to get there…and, oh yeah, the printer is out of black ink, so it makes printing directions and maps from google difficult.
Welcome Agent J!! We love it here. It’s a great place. It’s almost like a strange amalgamation of most of the other boards: we ask and answer questions; give opinions; share recipes, books and projects; and even home repair. We’re nice about it too. Oh, and I’ve always wanted to go to Scotland …and Ireland.
Sick 'er Vbob
Has anyone seen McUne lately?? (A big thanks to GT for making sure the recipe blog gets updated. Oh and I’ll take some random Monday in October.)
Soapy I have no idea where the CAPS went. They all kept disappearing. I must have edited that post 4 times trying to get them to stay put. Board funkiness? :dubious: I just hope it’s not my computer…
Well, I better get moving and do my nails for this wedding…after I put the cinnamon rolls in the oven of course.
Excellent link- did not know some of that! Fish as symbol of fertility, though… um… no more fertility around this tower, thankyouverymuch!
Will you laugh at me very hard if I confess that I didn’t know what a “noon special” was and that it was the direct etymology of “Lunch” as your nick? I mean I got the innuendo, but I thought it was more oblique than that!
You will laugh at me for that?
Ok, never mind, then. ![]()
Weekend plans? I have grading to do!! Don’t wanna do it and you can’t make me.
Oh, and AgentJ- this is a great place to play on the board. Stick around-- you’ll see!
ETA: oh and the it’s goats and squid (not quid- we don’t pay anyone to hangout with us!! :D)
So “noon specials” could be… risk-free?
Well, considering I didn’t know either, until it was brought up… (Roo, I’m looking at you! :p) I can’t very well fault you for not knowing
I still like the idea though, even if it wasn’t mine.
**Mousie **-- **McUNE *is alive and well, but not posting or reading much lately; she’s pretty much pulled a silent Haze, I think. :Checks her profile: Yes, she hasn’t so much as logged into the boards since 9/9. (And yeah, I miss Haze, too. And McUNE. :()
And the CAPS problem would have arisen if a post was in ALL CAPS – all of it. The explanation I’ve seen in the past is, in the case a post contains no lower-case letters at all, the software downcases all but the initial letter of every word. Don’t ask me why, it’s not software I wrote…
- I know… “American or European date format?
”
Up, caffeinated, off to [del]work[/del] tailgate.
