My world, and welcome to it; a pictorial MMP

Ummmm, why not? Did they tell you?

Great pics, rosie.

I like seeing the kinds of buildings people work in. Dunno why.

I should be asleep by now. Guess I’ll try…

Looooooong work day. I need to win the freakin’ Lotto or something. I’m sick of work.

Unfortunately, I can’t just crash, because I need to pick my daughter up at 10:00 tonight.

Tomorrow, I’m taking my daughter down to UW-T to buy her books, the discounted bus pass, and figure out what the hell is going on with tuition. I’m a little cornfused about the whole thing.

Hubby passed his DOT with flying colors. That’s a good thing, considering he drives a big 18-wheeler.

Nothing else of note to report. I think I’ll relax for a bit.

This is my apartment. I drive my car to work, usually for 12+ hours. If I’m not working, I’m at the RBC Center, hanging with my crew.

[color=red]rosie[/colro], your gas is 20-30 cents cheaper than mine. I like the Warner Brothers(and the Warner sister, Dot).

Horay for Aunt Nava!

Bed time, have to be at work at 0dark30

Congrats on the new niece. Can’t wait to see pictures.

I hope this isn’t too weird to say, but… Paula was the name of my friend who passed away. I’m glad there’s another beautiful Paula in the world.

Not weird, karmic. Look at the timing.

Wow, Paula in/Paula out. Nice symmetry there. Huh…

I did my homework in the form of a photo blog entry on my LiveJournal. Hope you like it! That pretty much covers my day–g’night, y’all…

:o <—sleepy, not BJ-y!

I’ll remember your friend when I see my niece, then

Many names in my family came up in remembrance of someone recently dead. There’s also a superstition that’s kind of the opposite: you do not give to a baby the name of someone who is alive. They can share the name if it’s been chosen for a different reason (because the mother likes it, or it’s the same name but a different saint, or it’s the same name but for a different relative who is deceased). My uncle Javier was going to be a Jaime, until his uncle Javier had a bad encounter with a bullet (Spanish Civil War of 1936, Ebro Front), so the Jaime got bumped over for the next boy who happened to come along… and that’s how my dad ended up being a Jaime.

He also got Maria, because Grandma had made a promise to Our Lady that she’d tag a Maria onto all her children if she got to marry the tall blonde gentleman. And Pedro Pablo, because he was born on the feast of Sts Peter and Paul.

Mom was pretty angry and offended when SIL refused to consider Jaime, in remembrance of Dad. But when we found out at the baptismal pile that the name she had chosen was the one that SIL’s Dad got tacked on for being his birth-date’s saint, and which he had never used because he didn’t like it… :smack: Not even The Proud Daddy knew it, so I guess it’s a good thing The Nephew was being held by his maternal uncle, because any member of my side of the family might have been likely to drop the poor kid.

SIL’s Dad’s ALS started between the time the Nephew’s name was officially announced and his birth. My maternal grandma has been known to grumble “that’s what happens when you give the name of a live one! And it’s the least they deserve, doing it behind our backs! Even behind his father’s back, the [censored]!”

This time, the name was chosen by telling names to The Nephew and picking one he liked. He happens to know several Paulas, one of whom has babysat him. He also liked Carla, but that’s a classmate of his from kindergarten who hits people, so SIL vetoed it. And since Paula is the female of Pablo, Middlebro says it makes him feel a bit like he’s “paying his debt to Dad.” As you can imagine, finding out that his son was being named after his FiL at the baptismal pile didn’t sit well with him either  It’s the kind of thing you wish your wife would have the bollocks to tell you while you’re still in the choosing phase :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s so many things behind a name, eh?

Up, caffeinated, off to work.

Ok, so, weird dream last night, but I’m sure that rosie will appreciate part of it…

Somehow my other car (the one that GilaMonster is borrowing) got stolen. When it was found the back door windows were smashed out, as was the back hatch. Also, the radio was gone and so was the glove box. And the thing that I was most irritated about? That the original factory radio in my almost 15 year old car was missing and not likely to be duplicated.:smack: After I found the car I was wondering around a local shopping plaza and I happened to come across a movie poster for a new remake of Mame which would be in theatres on January 24 and I was ECSTATIC.

Great pictures everyone!

And, smarty, we have that same Cavalier (same colors and everything), but with the top chopped off!

((Soapy))), praying for you, your friend, and her family. :frowning: And Nat sends hugs. Of course, he ends his cuddles with trying to pull your teeth out, but the first part is nice.
Work yesterday was fine, boring, quiet, but I came home unable to focus my eyes from exhaustion. Still giving it another month or so, but I’m not sure I can hack this unless Nat stops needing to eat twice a night and crying a lot.
The #$%@!! cats woke Nat up at 6. We’re off to Costco laster- anyone need anything? A fifteen-pound pack of marshmallows? Five roast chickens?

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ and snifflin’ and sneezin’. Damn allergies! Time to purtify for workification, I guess.

Everybody have a good day/night.

Later Y’all!

Also up. Cool pics, Smartie! Yeah…names are fun, aren’t they?

Gotta get going early this morning. Wasn’t I just at work yesterday?

GT

BioRosie, ya did fine. Just the right amount of snark, too.

GT, we had 3 crabapple trees in Indiannoplace. Gorgeous in the spring, but what a mess when the fruit fell. The fruit wasn’t edible, either. The apple trees at the VunderLair are getting picked tonight. Fun fun fun.

Is it O beer thirty yet?

I approve of your Animaniacs figurines. Especially Princess Angelina Contessa Louisa Francesca Banana Fanna Bo Besca III.

Portland looks like a beautiful place, Smarty. And your funky curtains are cool.

An update of sorts on the missing mortgage payment: On advice of the mortgage company, I’ve stopped payment on the check, and waiting 24 hours before making the payment (electronic this time). I also managed to talk them out of the late penalty, since I sent it at the proper time and it’s missing through no fault of my own.

This is annoying as hell.

You have to purtify to telecommute? :dubious:

Okay, of course I didn’t mean that linky link to my work to come out that way, but I could not figure out how to fix it. There’s been some changes to the way that you insert the links in replies, and I can’t figure out how to do it right now. Others seem to have figured it out–my brain is fried I guess.

Yes, I was ambivalent about putting in a link to my real job, but then I figured okay, now maybe I’ll find out if any of my co-workers are dopers. Er, SDMB dopers, that is. LOL

I am caffeinated, although I doubt that it’s sufficient. I’ve gotten about 4-5 inches done on my afghan, and am now thinking that I’m going to need way more yarn than I realized. I foresee another trip to probably Jo-Ann’s, cause I think I’m going to run out of the current yarn by tomorrow or maybe even tonight. I’m also reading a book called “Pirate,” by Ted Bell; it’s pretty good although it’s taking me a while to get into. Apparently the main character, Alex Hawke, carries over from other books Bell has written. It’s a thriller, or at least that’s what they call it on the book cover.

urf. Is it time to go back to bed yet?

Had a very weird dream last night that just wouldn’t stop. Ugh. I is tahred!

It is fun to see everyone’s day-to-day sights. Sorry I haven’t come up with more than a couple flowers. I probably won’t get to any pics today either because 1) work is probably going to get busy (although at the moment it’s painfully dull) and 2) it’s raining outside so I don’t want to stand out there taking pictures! I’ll probably try to keep it to stuff that wouldn’t identify exactly where I live or work, but there’s still a lot I can do, like **rosie **did, that would be fun to see.

I made Rachel Ray’s pumpkin sausage penne last night. It’s really good. We’ve had it before, and it’s a recipe we really like, but it always seems fall/wintery so we haven’t had it in a loooooong time. It tasted really good last night.

bobbio, there is definitely something wrong with the You Ass postal service. It took forever for my last car payment check to get to the payment center. I mailed it on Sept 2 and they still didn’t have it a week later. It DID finally get there. Then you wrote about your problem and last night Mr. Anachi said at least two checks he had mailed in the box outside his building were late. I pay everything online now so that I can at least track it.

Loved your pictures, smarty. The bike path is teh kewl!

gt, those trees are so gorgeous! My grandma always had a crab apple tree or two. She made crab apple jelly from the fruit.

I am sleepy today because I stayed up until 11:00 watching the Heros premier. I don’t think I’m going to be getting up early to walk this week because I’ll be doing it all over again on Thursday for Office and 30 Rock. Anyway, I’ll be doing a ton of walking in about a week.

I have serious vacation mode Don Juannas.

Tupug

Morning, all. I was lazing on the porch yesterday and noticed my sinuses were giving me hell. Since it’s been dry lately, I was a bit confused. And then I sat on the old couch we had put on our porch (yes, we are so the Clampetts around here–or do I mean the Judds?) and about-to-die, I found the source of my sinus issues.

I loved that old couch (bought for my Superbowl party in 1985 in my first apartment), but 3 kids had done it in. I used to sleep out on the porch on some autumn nights on it. <sigh> That deluge / Gustav and Ike remnants left one side all mildewy. Ugh. I just maneuvered it down to the curb. Maybe somebody will take it. I also put our old curtains and header out there and an old printer. I hate to just throw things out, but I have no patience with ebay (which is a lot of work, IMO) and really, no charity shop around here will take curtains or an old, moldy couch…

Another lovely day here. I’m sending a care pkg to Daughter, just 'cause. I’m sending her that People magazine, and the rest of her mail. We don’t really read People, but it IS a world away from academics.

I need to plant some bulbs today–I only bought about 40 this year (the squirrels like to feast on tulip bulbs so tulips are only good for about 2 years here). It’s enough. I am “done” with gardening in my head. I did a lot this year: dug a big bed and reworked another one, as well as spread tons of mulch and did some tree pruning and ripping out of bushes etc. I’m ready to clean out the beds and winterize them.

I keep meaning to say that the banana muffins posted somewhere here sound delish. Also, I’ve really enjoyed seeing where everyone works and lives (mumps?). I could link to my hospital’s website, but it’s not a big place and I’m a bit paranoid re public site and this living forever in cyberspace etc.

[airplane] “A hospital? What is it?” “It’s a big building with lots of sick people in it, but that’s not important right now!” [/airplane]
