Mystery Mafia -- Game Thread

I don’t think you are stupid, I just don’t think you can help it. And thick I may be but my track record for finding scum is really good. I have a problem, I am posting from my phone while at the gym. Ok now I am leaving.

Please PM me with any corrections! Night in ~1.5 hours.

Uhg. Such a bad move on his part. If he’s a wolf he has to realize that taking my quote out of context isn’t just going to go unnoticed, right?

Color me stupid, but MykBot specifically recommended N1 self-targeting and now implies Townies should have known to ignore him! Was his first post then intended as a joke?

But he is not a front-runner. I’d move my vote if I had a clue which, if any, of those front-runners is scummy. Krayz may be acting Crazy; Peeker is still peeker’ I don’t feel the case against TexCat.

So I’ll just stand pat and shut down my computer.

No, I want these players to cast votes on meaningful wagons because as it stands it’s going to be very easy for the wolves to come in right before end of day and cause a mislynch. The wolves are also most likely to be the ones on one of the lead wagons trying to push a villager over a wolf. I’m not really concerned about there being wolves amongst a group of players who have a bunch of throwaway votes.

Unless you pair it with

Nice repair though.

Let’s look at the scenarios here.

1.Townie peeker forgot how to read for 1 post.

  1. Scum peeker hoped no one, including the original poster would remember what the post actually said.

If one then peeker needs to think more before posting.

If two then peeker apparently thinks town is populated entirely of wall-lickers.

Scum don’t win by assuming town is dumb but town won’t win if we assume the wolves are incapable of strategy either. If it’s a scum ploy it’s as subtle as dropping a baby grand from 10 stories up.

Seriously guys, we can’t go into end of day with 4 lead wagons 3 voted before. Just don’t let it happen.

I’ve seen Scum pull exactly this gambit in-game and win by doing so. We can talk more at NightFall if you’d like.

It’s not the thought process. It’s Ed himself, and no, I really can’t elaborate on what’s triggering my “look closely at Ed” feeling. Something was “wrong” about his peeker vote, and it just got worse when he voted Jan.

This is, very often, a problem I have during games. My gut says “so-and-so is a Wolf” but when I go back through trying to make a case I have a lot of trouble doing so.

I disagree with NAF about peeker; a lot of what peeker does is a null tell to me. That said, though, yes. This.

Or Wolf, if that’s what you are. :dubious:

On that note, welcome!

I think we’re none of us very pleased by them but they tend to happen an awful lot, especially in a game where there are claims to be made.

Ditto Ed.

Dear lord, ditto Ed.

Bleached for the mod. Yeah, it’s weak reasoning but it is all I have at the moment. Also, I would never, ever claim following someone else’s vote excused mine. Not ever. Not nohow.

No.

I have my vote on the player I feel is Scummiest/Wolfiest. Just because my gut doesn’t jibe with the guts of the people on the leaders doesn’t mean I should change my vote. Yes, it’s a one-off. Yes, it’s against the grain of a lot of people. However, my vote, more than anything else I say is the only record that will be available when I die – however I flip – and I’m not going to switch to someone I don’t have a strong feel on either way this early in the game.

This is what I’m grappling with. It’s essentially a closed case that it was just a mistake if peeker quotes my post and then says “in this post you say you’re not going to vote me…” but he goes farther and physically edits out the rest of that sentence and the sentence after it which provides the whole context. Wolf or villager, why the fuck would he do that?

I was actually responding to **peeker **asking why he would vote for one of the lead vote-getters and not really thinking about the list of non-voters. I think there are two discussions going on about who needs to vote and for whom.

voting for someone you have not/can not make a case on often buys you a noose

Meh, lynch means info and I’m ok with lynching a townie tonight because of wolves swinging the vote as that means Tomorrow I have some nice wolfy vote records to get all up in. We have two possible outcomes: a dead townie or a dead wolf. The second is preferable and I’m certainly gunning for it, but let’s not kid ourselves that if we get the first, everything is wasted.

But that is not a list of solely non voters

Anyone who hasn’t voted needs to vote. There, that was easy.

Anyone who has voted and isn’t voting for the candidate they think is Wolfiest needs to reconsider their vote. Also easy.

Anyone suggesting someone needs to hop on a bandwagon they don’t believe in and couldn’t back up if they tried (whatever the reason the person is pushing a bandwagon vote) needs to be looked at veeeeeery skeptically.

NETA all of them have votes down (I think)

I understand. But when you die, we know your role. You can also freely voice itt who you feel is a villager and who you feel is the wolfiest without always voting for the wolfiest player you feel there is. Sometimes it’s better to go with a worse read for the benefit of the village. If X and Y are lead wagons, X has been neutral and Y has been townie, but you’re convinced Z is a wolf, voting for Z benefits the village in no way. You need to vote for X in order to save Y. You stating “Z is the most likely wolf” is plenty, you don’t have to actually vote for Z every damn day. It wastes a vote that could save villagers.

Last minute vote switching/voting makes me nervous. It seems like an easy way for scum to bait townies into a vote that isn’t very well thought out.

They do, those are all the people on 1 person wagons. Useless votes.

Okay, finally caught up, and I have a few more things to add.

I’m inclined to agree with the reasoning earlier that the distributions of votes seems to indicate that it’s likely one or more of the leading candidates at the time was scum. This, along with scuba_ben’s shifty voting pattern, which appears opportunistic makes me suspicious of him. The most suspicious thing, however, is that after switching off of Krayz, he specifically mentions he doesn’t feel those wagons, and then jumps right back on. So, he’s definitely my number one scum candidate.

That said, there’s little time left in the day, and I don’t feel like there’s enough time to really make that case, so I’ll leave it off as something to look into tomorrow. Instead, given the wagon distribution, I think one of the leading candidates is scum, and so I also agree that we need to try to consolidate on one of the leaders.

To that end, I’ve already expressed my discontent with the Krayz and peeker wagons, so I’m not going to look at them. The other options are TexCat and Silver Jan. Running with these two ideas, I think the best place for my vote is one of these two. TexCat’s vote mostly looks like an OMGUS to me, but Silver Jan is also on the peeker wagon with a sort of me too attitude. As such, of the leading candidates, I’m most suspicious of her, so…

Vote Silver Jan
