Mystery Mafia -- Game Thread

i kind of agree with naf. otherwise how will town ever figure out what the hell they are. but i am not sure Day 1 is the time to do it. didn’t gad mention it somewhere that not necessarily all actions would be in effect for Night 0? or am i hallucinating?

:dubious:
The casual condescension I could do without. That’s really my gimmick and I would appreciate you leaving it alone. Type without capitalization if you want to steal someone’s schtick.

(um…the above was said with tongue in cheek, for those that don’t know me. I’m not really *this *much of a dick in real life)

The OP might answer your question.

I can see how it would give town information to announce what may have happened, but the wolves have night actions too. Do we want to potentially give them the same information?

Alas, we used to have him. danceswithcats passed away two years ago.

Yep. Don’t get us started about the search timer.

I agree. It’ll be far too easy to confuse “peek” as the term on 2+2 for “investigate” with peek the player.

My $.03 on posting targets: It’s too early to do anything useful with it. Once we get to Day 3 or 4, we might have enough information to do something useful with a mass claim of targets (not necessarily actions). Meanwhile, we may want to spread out our Night actions toNight to reduce potential collisions.

On second thought, Normal Phase makes a good point that announcing action targets early gives Town more chances to catch Scum in a lie.

The fact that Day 1 is so short compared to how the Dope normally plays may not make any overall difference, as D1 has so little to go on. The 2- or 3-day Days will be a challenge, though.

I have my usual early reads, which is to say none whatsoever. I’d like to get an early vote out just to have one out, but I have less reason in this game than my last. (Wherein I voted Ed for playing a useful variation on the Pleo-Idle gambit, when e made a suitably vague non-claim at the start of Day 1.)

and i guess i would ask naf to clarify. are you suggesting that we announce just who we targeted or who we targeted and what we targeted them with? because i know you said you targeted me but did you try to kill me, investigate me or what? and that is not begging for you to disclose that?

Well, yes. That was the idea. It’s obviously a trade off for town but I had thought that the gains for town would be greater than the trade. NP’s post pointed out that it was slightly more harmful than I had though because I was sort of assuming that the scum would be idiots, and I shouldn’t have done that.

The benefit to town would still be there, but now I think it would be closer to a net neutral for town gain than it would be a positive and really we can’t do that right now.

Ok, I will break this down for you a little further since you seem to be having some trouble understanding why your idea is so awful:

I’m not NAF nor do I play him on TV, but it seems to me that at present we don’t know what we targeted people with. Well one person might, but all we know is that one person’s N0 action succeeded, not what it did.

So everybody has a Mysterious Wand of Mystery, and part of this game is for each of us to deduce what our personal /Mys does.

Added By Way Of Post (spelling out ABWOP for those new to the Dope):

I’m a little surprised I haven’t noticed much on the Dope in the way of fake breadcrumbs (“fakepeeking”). I’ve wanted to do that myself at times.

Exactly. And I don’t see why we wouldn’t all just use our scum suspects as guinea pigs instead of outing our targets to give the wolves more perfect information than they already have.

peeker, unless you got a different PM than the rest of us, no one knows their power (well, except maybe for that one person whose action went through last Night).

You all type too fast.

I agree that D1 might not be best but we may be able to tweek it for later Days . And yes not all actions were in effect Night 0

At this point HOW would **Naf ** know ?

On preview I see this is redundant but I typed it so you can read it anyway!

I will not!!

By the way, for those of you who don’t know, I’m Metallic Squink. Sorry for the two screen names but it’s a long, boring story. Just get used to it already!

I often read Squink for ‘skunk’ so the transition will be easy for me:D

On the other board this would be where I would post a picture of a skunk covered in armor. I’m sure I’d be able to find one.

/head explodes

Holy crap, I had no idea!

What lilflower said. Remember that each of us Townies has only our own brains to go on, and while WE can’t see how something a Wolf did makes sense, there’s no reason the Wolves with their multiple brains can’t have picked up on something we didn’t.

Huh? Who to the what now?

It’s not an in joke, nor is it a 100% policy vote, but it is actually something where if you’re caught in a lie (of commission) I’m more likely to vote your lynch than not. Mostly because every game I’ve been in where we’ve caught a player in an out-and-out lie, they’ve been Scum/Wolf. I’ve been told there are games where Town lied to Town for the benefit of all, but I’ve never played in one.

And, yes. Town has enough trouble without also lying to each other.

Gad said there was ONE action that took place N0.

And I’d think that a claim of who was targeted would be better left toward end-game just like Mass Claims.
