Mystery Rash, Are You Ready For Your Mystery Rash?

It’s times like these I’m glad I can work at home sometimes. All I can say is, “nofuckingway nofuckingway nofuckingway nofuckingway”.

The unevenness of my skintone, coupled with the near-invisible eyelashes – Fuck that. I’m calling in sick.

Well, you could always go extremely retro and wear a Gibson girl hat. The brim would be wide enough to cast a nice shadow across your face.

I once had a severe case of strep throat that resulted in an awful rash (scarlet fever). I ended up in the ER and the doctor took one look at me, said “Oh wow” and went to get another doctor. They then compared me to the photos of scarlet fever in a textbook and told me my rash was even better than the one in the book. :o

Read it and weep. I swear, I don’t think I could do it.

I’m sorry to hear this is happening to you. After all the joking around, there you still are with some weird and upsetting problem. Being betrayed by your own body sucks even more than being betrayed by others!

I think it’s odd that this happened before, but a long time ago. Have you tried to think of things that are the same between now and then? Were you dealing with a lot of stress when you had the last outbreak?

Any-who, I’ll be thinking of you, and hope this clears up fast for you.

Absolutely no rhyme or reason. No one can figure out what causes it. No more stress than usual; nothing different I touched, used, ate. Happened once in summer and once in winter.

I did French-kiss Courtney Love right before both times, but . . . naaaahhhh.

As for that site, on a good day, I look like the “bad” celebrity photos!

Is it just on your face? Not your hands, arms, or neck?
I was just wondering because if it is something you have been using on your face I could see having those areas break out as well from contact.
One of my daughters gets a rash from being out in the cold, but she gets it on all areas exposed. Sometimes that is how I bust her for not wearing gloves!
I hope they find out the cause and get you all cleared up.

It is cleared up, thanks, but no makeup or moisturizer or even sunscreen for a week. Since I can’t wear lipstick, I broke out the huge Jackie O sunglasses to deflect attention from my pale, nekkid mouth.

The rash always starts at the right corner of my mouth, and spreads quickly, if I don’t catch it immediately, which is why I panicked on Thursday. Weird. The dermatologist says he’s only ever seen one other case like this, and, oddly, that patient was from Philadelphia, too . . .

I blame in on Rizzo. Or MOVE.

Eve, dear… remember that long and endless thread on pimples with the lengthy saga of How My Face Exploded One Night? Or maybe you didn’t read it. Emergency surgery to drain an infection, debridement, months of bandages…

Eve, I realize throwing out the makeup and moisturizers and all that stuff is painful but DO IT. The current rash may not be bacterial or otherwise germ in nature, but goodness sake, you don’t want an infection on top of an infection! With your skin so raw right now you are vulnerable. Take NO chances with this! Better a week without makeup than two months of wound irrigation and bandage changes!

When everything settles down buy fresh, new, and uncontaminated products to start over.

Be careful.

Truthfully, I will *not * be hurt if you do not acquire an inch and a half long scar to match the one on my face.

Now that I’ve probably scared the dickens out of you – you got to the doctor early, the medicine you’ve been given is apparently effective. Your looks are preserved, you will heal. Take a deep breath.

Now, there are some viral diseases that can result in recurring infections with blistering raw skin… and yes, shingles is one of them and I’m glad they’ve tested for that. They should test for the others. There are medications that can reduce the length and severity of such breakouts, even if they can’t eliminate them. If nothing else, the next time (and yes, we hope there is no next time, but we must be prepared) this pops up you will know what it is and quite likely be able to take immediate action to treat it.

If it’s not an infection, test for allergies. If it is an allergy, once you know what it is, it will be much, much easier to avoid.

Take care of yourself. You WILL get better.

Damn. I just had a nice long reply to the effect that yes, I am following doctor’s orders, but then my computer crashed.

Damn.

You’re having a bad week, hon - I recommend some quality time in a fluffy bathroom with a large cup of hot chocolate and some soothing music in the background. Or the equivalent.
