Mystery Science Theater 3000

Thank you. Gotta go look for that one.

“Again with the finger!”

That was Horror of Party Beach, which is also the one with the “Sodium” song.

Me too. Starting snickering as soon as I read “look Polish”.

Does anyone remember the short about the Home Ec. Dept at Iowa State?

I have nothing but fond memories of this show (see previous post). I started watching it way back when it was only on Twin Cities TV.

One time they did a live version of the show at a theatre in Minneapolis. Sold out before I could get tickets. Still wish I had seen that!

Wasn’t that part of Convent-o-Con ExpoFest-a-Rama I? I always figured all the con-goers had dibs on the tickets.

I never made it to either of the Cons; I was still in high school and enough of a goody-two-shoes that I asked permission to do ridiculous road trips. And then I obeyed the parental fiat! Ah, my wasted youth!

In the interest of “Keep circulating the tapes,” I will point out that a search on your friendly neighborhood Internet for the “Digital Archive Project” provides hours of fun.

“My pantyhose are itchy! My pantyhose are itchy!”

“Everyone look alive! Ooh, sorry, Debby.”

You mean Iowa State: the high school after high school?

“Look! Look! Look at my crotch! Look at my crotch! Yaaaay!”

“This assembly was for the girls only.” “Ooooohhhh.” “Your Period and Mine: A Lecture.”

“I want to tell you about some girls I know very well.” “And why I’m being fired.”

“Let’s see… The Bell JarOur Bodies, Ourselves… oh, here it is. Ghetto Freaks.”

“It was a day just like any other…” “…when suddenly, a shot rang out. A lone gunman…”

“Jill got a real thrill when she dropped the letter in the mailbox.” “Wooohooooohooohoo!”

“This is phlegm. This is mucus.”

“A five-pound potty? She must’ve had a big breakfast!”

Best short ever.

Pancakes!

“Hey, that demon’s flippin us off! Back at ya, Clyde”

“I thought I was going to end up like Bob Crane there”

I have a little over 100 episodes on tape, this thread is making me think this would be a good weekend for a marathon.

So I wake up, stumble into the living room, turn on the Sci-Fi channel, blink, check the clock, hit “info”, blink again, do a search on the TV guide, blink, check the clock, make sure it’ Saturday…

And come to the conclusion they aren’t playing MST3K!! What the fuck?! Is this a permanent change?! I don’t have any of the episodes on tape, I didn’t have Cable when they were playing new episodes, this was my only fix…hyperventilates

It’s only temporary.

Here’s the schedule for the rest of the year.

Does anyone know the name of the short, and the movie with which it is played, where it’s about accepting electricity and how this young woman uses electricity to make a nice dinner to impress a boy?

It was “A Young Man’s Fancy” featured with #610 - The Violent Years.

Oh, I love The Violent Years. “Young Man Criminally Attacked By Marauding Band Of Girls”

“No, don’t all of you get on me at once, now!”

Dr Forrester (to TV’s Frank, while poking him with a hazmat containment throw pillow, after feeding him radioactive waste): “What? You’re gonna cry now? You big baby! Cry! Cry!”

You know, I have the house to myself all day today…and 3 volumes of the MST3K DVD box sets I can watch…I think it’s time for a marathon.

Then there is Angels Revenge where the women tie up the drug men…

From memory
Mike, “I don’t care for this scene as much as the similar scene in the Violent Years.”

Tom, “well, the director doesn’t have the love of the subject that Ed Wood did.”

I’m going to have to watch that episode today now.

Well, in the last two days I got to meet and talk to both Mike Nelson and Kevin (Tom Servo) Murphy. They were here in Las Vegas for a book festival, and were both extremely nice and very funny. They signed all my MST3K stuff (DVD’s and a CD) and the book I have of Mike’s. It’s not often that you get to thank the creators of your favorite show in person, so I am quite happy to have had the chance.

Mmmmm…Mike Nelson…(drooling)

He writes for TV Guide sometimes. I also have his first book, Mike Nelson’s Movie Megacheese. I have to get Mind over Matter.

And I think Kevin Murphy has a book out too.

Mind Over Matters is pretty good. Some essays are better than others.

Some friendly advice: when you get to the essay on the history of television, be sure you don’t have any fluids in your mouth.

Kevin’s book is A Year at the Movies: One Man’s Filmgoing Odyssey in which he attempts to see a movie a day for year. He ends up travelling all over the world.

If you go to Mike’s website, you can order autographed copies of his books. I did!
