It was fun. I skim quite a few threads on a general basis, but I guess that a high enough concentration of pure, unadulterated stupid just means that it’s party time, no matter what the subject is.

Kinda-agreed on both points. But I think that Commissar is one of the more entertaining trolls (at least he will be until he starts ratcheting up his schtick to get more of an effect). I mean, his heartfelt complaint that Amnesty was biased against “authoritarians” was one of the best pieces of troll-porn that I’ve ever seen.

Commisar claims to have been a teenager when the Soviet Union collapsed. He states in a previous thread that his parents were intellectuals (Dad was a scientist, if I recall correctly). Apparently they were from Bellarus, and his parents came to the US when things went sideways after the USSR fell apart.
I have tried to point out that being members of the intelligentsia means that he didn’t really get to see the dark side of the lives of the Proles… excuse me, Proletariat, but he handwaves that away.
tl;dr version: He’s an idiot with delusions of grandeur of a society he didn’t live in, and refuses to learn or understand anything that disagrees with that outlook.

In a way, I think he is. His persona is of a totalitarian thug who engages in the worst kinds of idiocy in order to get his schtick on, but utterly impotently. Like a former KGB boss whose new job is developing film at a Walgreens and spends his days ranting at anybody who comes near. He is, intentionally or unintentionally, taking the piss out of those who romanticize communism.
Here’s a query: Can avowed communists immigrate to the USA and naturalize? I mean, can they do so without fibbing about their views about “the Empire”?

That thread was good fun, even though few of you were willing to engage in intellectual debate. Rather, the vast majority of posts there were little but appeals to base animal emotions: “Wah, I hate North Korea! It makes me angry and sad! I blame them for everything!”
Grow up, people. There may be a time and place for emotional outbursts, but this is not it. If your best “arguments” in favor of a position are your strong feelings on the topic, you may want to keep it to yourself. To the best of my knowledge, this board exists to fight ignorance, not to give you an alternative to psychotherapy when it comes to mindless venting.
Having said that, it was somewhat entertaining observing many of you run in circles trying to prove an unsupported assertion with an avalanche of other unsupported assertions. For most of you, the argument seemed to come down to: “North Korea is totally to blame! We know this because North Korea always lies. We know this, in turn, because North Korea intentionally and maliciously starves its people. And we know this because North Korea is evil. Which we know because they are to blame here!” Ridiculous. It’s like debating nihilism with a bunch of cranky preschoolers; the only thing you are likely to walk away with is a headache.
Well, at least most of you tried your best in light of your limited knowledge and intellectual prowess. The same cannot be said for FinnAgain, who apparently subscribes to school of thought that holds that all debates can be won by screaming the loudest and ignoring one’s interlocutors. Unlike the rest of you, he did not even bother to justify his positions; he would simply present them as accepted truth and demand that others disproved them. When they did so, he would dismiss all inconvenient points as “straw man arguments” and reiterate his now discredited assertions. I would not be at all surprised if he is a fanatical theist in real life, since he certainly has their style of argumentation down pat: “There is a God! No, I don’t need to prove it - YOU need to disprove it! Come on, disprove it. I’m waiti… Huh? Oh, you just presented a bunch of well-reasoned arguments for why my position is unlikely? I’ll just ignore them. See, you can’t disprove my statement!” And let’s not even discuss this dummy’s attempts to pontificate on subjects that he clearly knows nothing about (i.e. international law).
Anyway, fun thread, but I expect most of you to try harder next time. FinnAgain, you’re probably beyond hope, so I don’t expect anything of you. Keep doing what you’re doing. It is not logical (and I doubt you can find a specific example of someone seriously doing this) to blame North Korea for everything. Just everything that’s wrong with North Korea. If the government wants 100% control of the population, they take 100% of the responsibility.

I’m would pay to see a good arguement about Communist Socialist philosophy and how it ends up working out in the real world between Commissar (idealist, blind to reality and with no actual experience with it) and lalenin (Cuban emigre who is far to familiar with the realities of living in that oh-so-failed system).

Anybody can (and should) check on the thread to see that your pattern was to routinely make unfounded assertions and then when called on it, to try to change the subject and demand that others disprove your unfounded assertions, all while trolling about how you are ever so displeased when people make unfounded assertions and refuse to provide proof for them.
Just off the top of my head, your list of unfounded assertions includes but is not limited to North Korea’s actions being “justified” and “appropriate”, North Korea ever referring to disputed territory as disputed rather than theirs, an attack on a nation being understood in international law to include shells falling into the open ocean and threatening nobody, Article 51 of the UN Charter using ‘self defense’ to refer to a situation where a country was never threatened, never thought it was threatened, and was acting once the source of ‘threat’ was long since a non-issue. Oh, you’re also a liar and like to make shit up about what other people have said, and then demand that they defend your strawmen.
They should also notice that you’re still lying here, and cites and facts were presented for all claims ranging from NK’s utter lack of trustworthiness to the fact that they starve their citizenry.
