Well, There is some things I like about TWINE but Goldeneye is better. The levels were harder heck it took me a year or better to beat Goldeneye on 007 and I am 3/4 through TWINE on 007 mode in a month.
The accuracy of Goldeneye is better but the graphics are better on TWINE.
I do like some of the extra gadgets you get in TWINE like the xray glasses and night vision. Those were way cool. While TWINE is fun, I think Goldeneye was the BEST.
http://www.dailyradar.com did a review/comparison of the two that was actually very good- they point out that TWINE had the better graphics but Goldeneye had much better AI. I only had limited playing time with TWINE and liked it a lot but did notice the dumb AI- in Goldeneye, if you shoot one person, the person next to him would notice and come for you. In TWINE you could pick em off from a distance with no consequences.
Artifical Intelligence. Basically it was much better in Goldeneye- the computer enemies acted more like real people would. TWiNE is still a good game but just not as good- Rare (the developers of G-eye) had a better grasp of how the AI should work.
I just hate the control of TWINE. When aiming and you push forward you usually look down in 9 out of 10 such games. Not in this one. I wish it was customizable.
Something about it missing the bond theme bugs me too.
Better graphics, animations though.
Though I’d take better control anyday. I could always watch the actual movie if I wanted the BEST graphics.
I miss the blood in Goldeneye. Also, there were loads of innocent bystanders/scientists to ruthlessly murder in cold blood, whereas they’re few and far between in TWINE, at least in my experience.
There wasn’t much blood in Goldeneye, just red spots. It was an awesome game, though.
If you think the AI in Goldeneye was good, you should try Perfect Dark. It uses a souped up version of the same engine and is made by the same development house. I don’t play it much (I have a PC and it’s hard to go back to 640x480) but I have seen…
…enemies creating and intelligently using cover
…enemies give up when they see you wipe out 4 of their friends at once
…that same enemy diving for the gun he dropped when you turn away from him
…enemies coordinating their attacks with each other
It’s also a bit harder than Goldeneye, which is a good thing I think. You have to have the 4MB expansion to play the single-player missions, though you can do multiplayer or multiplayer scenarios against computer controlled opponents without it.
The best AI I have seen in a FPS is in SWAT 3 for the PC. It’s just uncanny how smart the computer is (or can be - most of the opponents aren’t as well trained as your team). It also has a pretty damn realistic morale system built into it. Some characters give up easy, dropping their weapon as soon as you hit the key that makes you yell at them to drop their weapon, some will just turn their back and run, sometimes you will face off until you fire a warning shot or your team shows up and outnumbers them - and some won’t give up at all.
BTW, I recently bought another game for the PC that really reminds me of Goldeneye - No One Lives Forever. It’s got about everything Goldeneye has and more, the same general ‘feel’ (it’s hard to explain, it just FEELS like Goldeneye), plus it has a really cool '60s setting and a great sense of humor. If you have a PC that’s up to it and loved Goldeneye, buy that game.
