Naive questions about applying for multiple jobs from the same company.

I sent in an application for a job recently, and haven’t yet heard back from their hiring department. Meanwhile, the same company has posted an ad for another position, extremely similar (though not identical) to the one I applied for. Should I go ahead and apply for that job too, or would that come across as too pushy? I’m guessing that the same people who review applications for the first job will also do so for the second one, since they’re so similar.

If I do apply for the second job, I may want to tweak my resume a bit to emphasize my qualifications for that position. Or would that be a mistake, seeing as how they already have my first resume on hand?

I don’t know anybody who has worked as a hiring manager, so I cast my questions to the luminiferous ether. Thanks in advance for your take on this.

It is fine to apply for multiple positions, and tweaking the resume shouldn’t be a problem. Just keep straight which version you submitted for each job. If you go to an interview, bring a couple copies of the version for that job so you know what the interviewer is looking at.

I once interviewed for two similar jobs at the same company in one week. I got a very warm and fuzzy feeling from one department and accepted their offer.

Applying for two dissimilar jobs could be more problematic, as employers like to think you know what kind of job you want.
