If anyone wants to know what happened, send me Email.
Oh, boo freakin’ hoo.
That’s what the FAQ says, in fact:
This has been the policy for at least as long as I’ve been here. And, it’s perfectly reasonable, IMO.
I’m not complaining about the policy. I was just confused because the board FAQ states this:
How can I change the information in my profile?
It is your responsibility to keep the information in your profile up-to-date. You should especially ensure that your email address is kept current. You can alter any of the fields in your profile, except your username. Once you have registered your username, it becomes yours for life. In extreme circumstances, you may request that the administrator change your username, but he or she will require a very good reason to do so.
That’s the reason I asked. I would have changed my username a long time ago (its just a mashup of my real first and last name) because I couldn’t think of anything better on the spot when I signed up and I had no idea how much I would eventually come to use this board.
I never thought it would be an “extreme circumstance” to request a change for that reason so I never have.
Ah, you’re reading the wrong FAQ. That’s the one that comes with vBulletin, and to the best of my knowledge, it’s never been altered to fit with the actual board policies. This is the FAQ which was written specifically to publish the board rules and policies.
I see. Many thanks sir.
Just out of curiosity, and the need to beat a dead horse, were those FAQ guidelines established before we went subscription? The current policy seems fine and dandy, but since things went pay-for-play it seems like perhaps a little less draconian standard is warranted when a case should arise. Just a thought.
