I’m trying to remember a movie I saw sometime between 1985-2000. I don’t remember much about it, but it had one very memorable scene. The main character, who is an ex-military sniper, gets ticked off with the obnoxious, loud drug dealers living in the apartment next to his, so he takes his rifle and shoots one of the guys in the head, from about 2 miles away. You see the scene from the perspective of the guy’s roommate, who is talking to him across a table when his head suddenly explodes. The freaked-out roommate describes it to the police, and the cop looks out the window and sees the mountain in the distance, and knows who they are looking for.
I haven’t seen the movie I think For You is talking about, just read references to it, but some part of my brain is kicking up either “Leon” or “The Professional” as the title for FY’s reference.
I don’t think Leon killed anyone with the sniper rifle. He was just showing her. The farther away you must be, the less professional you are. He fired it at a politician running in the park, hitting him with some sort of fake round.
I just did a quick search on IMDB for movies about snipers.
I found thisin the search results. Sounds like a possible match.

A murder witness can’t convince the police that the killer lives in the apartment across the courtyard from him, realizes he is the sniper’s next victim. *
