Name Translations...some are obvious and some are just plain weird

I chose the uname “Melin’s Sympathizer” because I sympathize with Melin’s case. Therefore, this is my declaration to cause as much trouble for the moderators as I can without breaking the SDMB rules. Hey, I think Melin DESERVED to be voted best <censored>, even though she wasn’t a <censored> when she was voted best <censored>

My most precious memories, from a little girl until now have been by the ocean. My dreams, my wishes, my comfort, have all come to me as I walk by the sea. Thank you mom and dad… for showing me the way…

I guess this shit was bound to happen. How sad.

In a stunning moment of non-imagination, I chose my “handle” because it is my initials: C.C.C. I thought about coming up with something a little more interesting, but didn’t want to change mid-stream.

After reading all this stuff about Melin, I saw some references to Contestant #3, sometimes shortened to C#3. I want to make it perfectly clear that I have no connection to that person whatsoever and I have no clue who that was or what he/she did on this board (it was obviously negative).

Zwhat my gramps calls me.

 It’s a butchering of my name in Welsh.

I’m also known as “ArmedWithAFork” in IRC land. It comes from my years in Iprov, where I came up with that name for a superhero character I had to invent on the spot (yes, that’s the nature of improv  )

I’m a superhero in disguise…

p.s: Coldfire how sad indeed… it was bound to happen.

My user name is both accurate and self-explanatory.

Oh and thanks, M-Symp. If you win, Ed shuts down the board. I have a pair of shears you can borrow if you later decide to cut off your nose to spite your face.

Coldfire, I agree. What a total waste of time!

My sig is a great song by a great band from California called Toledo. Those of you who know me know that my life revolves around the saxophone.

Coincidentally, I found out that Adolph Sax and I share the same birthday (which also happens to be National Saxophone Day).

WallyM7 = Ruler of 7 kingdoms, slayer of gods, virility personified, creator of worlds, possesor of infinite wisdom.

I chose it because it so accurately depicts who I am.

I had a subscription to a music magazine a few years back. When the first issue came, the address label inexplicably listed my name as “Spoke M______”.

I gave it some thought, and decided it wasn’t a bad online nick. It is open to several interpretations, for one thing. Plus, it’s short. It’s catchy. It’s easy to type. Presto!

I read a lot of Dr. Seuss to my kids. Thing 1 and Thing 2 from the cat in the hat always intrighued me.

Sqrl = S (straight) times Q (queer) times R (reality) equals L (Life). The Cub part just describes me in a physical sense (do a search for gay bears and cubs and you will get an idea). +400 cool points for giving a useless/untrue definition on MPSIMS

And now for the real one. The humble squirrel is my totem animal and the cub part is because I am a cub (that part above was accurate).

HUGS!

New guy here. Just thought it was time to jump in with something. Flyhalf is my position on the pitch.

That’s neat–I always assumed it from the Bowie song “The Pretiest Star.”

My name comes from an Elvis Costello song.

“I was born in this town, I was raised in this town, and I’ll probably die in this town. Hell, I’ve already been hit by a car on this street, twice!”–if you recognize where this quote is from or who said it, please tell me.

“Thor’s Hammer” The “j” is pronounced like a consonant “y.”

The reason I picked that is rather Joycean, but I have used that handle a number of times in various places over the past 15 years.

TMR,

I went a few rounds with that same album…have you ever counted how many times the good captain says “bulbous”??

just wondering.

I’d been through a few screen names on AOL, and decided I needed one to stick with that described me. While perusing a thesaurus for appropriate words, I found “esprit,” meaning “a vivacious, clever wit.” Trying to work it into a name, I came up with “Max Esprit” (Max=maximum). Too bulky, so I twisted it into “Esprix.” (And yes, it’s pronounced “es-PREE,” although many erroneously say “ES-priks.”)

On a related note, does anyone know what song contains the words “maximum joy?” I’ll maybe post it in the lyric thread.

Esprix
