I also love high Scarlet. It’s so much better than whiny Scarlet.
We also need coming out of the closet Will sometime soon - this dragging out is not interesting. Then both Will and Juliette can sign with Highway 65 because “no one else will sign them”. And then I guess the show ends.
I like Will singing Gunnar’s songs way more than I like Gunnar singing Gunnar’s songs.
I’m also liking High Scarlett better than whiny Scarlett, frightened rabbit Scarlett, cry-y Scarlett or any of the other deeply annoying Scarlett’s we’ve seen. But they’ve really got to get that girl into some movement classes, she was not the “natural” that they claimed she was in the video shoot.
I barely watch this anymore. I thought I would eventually get put off by the country music but now that’s about the only thing I do like. I’m finding all the characters unlike-able, with the only exceptions being Lennon and Maisy. Deacon’s hissy fit over his new GF talking to Teddy put him in the “yeah, I don’t care about him anymore” category.
If there was anything more cliche than Scarlett’s drug addiction it’s evil daddy conveniently having a heart attack in the company of his enemy.
Is Powers Booth actually ill? He looked rather sickly but I wasn’t sure if it was good makeup/acting or if he is ill and that is why they are writing him out?
Okay, I’m starting to get into it again. Love Powers Booth, but he was one character too many, so I’m glad they killed him. OTOH, they shouldn’t’ve gotten rid of Coleman (?) – the black politician who was Deacon’s AA sponsor. Verisimilitude would have been to have Deacon talking to his sponsor last night.
And the girlfriend sleeping with Teddy, WTF?
And is Tandy a drug addict now or what?
And what’s the turnaround going to be with Juliette joining Rayna’s label?
And is the Gunnar-Avery band going to work out or not?
I understand Record Exec guy is supposed to be the villain but how horrible is his business strategy? Let me get rid of two major profit makers for us and then I will dick over the hot young thing I planned on replacing one of them with. Then I will try to resign the controversial artist I just dumped with a very sweet deal that includes bringing in her boyfriend for $250K. How is that record label not hemorrhaging money and why is the board not putting his head on a spike already?
What exactly is Avery trying to do? He had his record deal and blew it. Juliette lands him another sweet deal and he blows that off. Gunnar gets him a gig at the Mercy Lounge and he whines about that? How many golden opportunities are you gonna blow you moron?
Gay guy decides to marry woman to hide the fact that he is gay - gee, what could possibly go wrong with that plan? Hopefully they don’t drag this story line out for weeks and weeks.
So, what did I miss with Rayna’s great idea to sing that duet with Juliette? Exactly how was that supposed to smooth things over?
Scarlett should just go be a waitress at Denny’s and forget everything else - what a sad sack whiny idiot.
I’m hoping the fact that gay guy’s past is about to come out means that gay guy’s past really is about to come out. Let’s cut to the chase on this plotline – everything else is moving at the speed of light.
It wasn’t supposed to smooth things over – it was supposed to throw the substantial Rayna James weight behind Juliette. I did like the montage playing out as they sang, though.
And WTF with Deacon’s gf hooking up with Teddy?
Loved black gf’s solo – she has a great voice. Do you think she and Gunnar will go ahead and form a band now?
I think whoever got picked for the backup singer gig is going to get injured/sick and she’ll wind up getting it after all, then Gunnar will be a dick to her about it and they’ll break up.
I still really enjoy this show. For whatever reason I find it highly entertaining, and I almost always wish I could watch the next episode right away.
I agree about Scarlett being pretty useless. I like her singing on the new songs better than the older stuff, but her speaking voice and character are still like nails on a chalkboard to me.
I think Juliette had/has every right to be pissed at Avery for wanting to produce Scarlett’s album but not hers. And I second xizor’s “What exactly is Avery trying to do?” That boy seems to have finally grown up some, but he needs to figure out what he wants. Other than Juliette.
According to Entertainment Weekly, they’ve been renewed for a third season. I know there are better nighttime soaps on right now, but this is my nighttime soap, so I’m very happy about that!
Agreed and agreed.
Gunnar should have said I have MOST of the band ready, just one guitarist out on tour.
And Scarlett didn’t have to let her mom hang around backstage. Tell someone to get that woman out of here.
And Rayna is starting to get my vote for worst mother of the year. No wonder her kid is a spoiled brat, she never gets punished when she defies her parents. My kids would have lost their phones/computers for 6 months minimum for posting something I expressly told them not to. And ruining a bunch of peoples careers in the process. And all she gets is a “go to your room while the grown-ups fix this”.
I kind of understand what they’re trying to do. But I just don’t care about Scarlett & I don’t remember Deacon ever saying that he had a horrible abusive childhood (but I might have forgotten).
I liked Deacon last night (ok, I like him generally. he’s a likable character played by a likable actor). Rayna, less so. And I’m not sure I get what they’re trying to do with Luke &/or Teddy at all.
I realized last night, that this season they’re not playing the songs. Last year, there were scenes where we’d go, sit in the bluebird and someone would sing an entire song. Or we’d go to a concert and someone would sing a song. There would be cuts to other people’s reactions - but no dialogue and generally we wouldn’t leave the venue where the song was being played until the song was done. (I’d hear the whole song, like the song, and go on Amazon and buy the thing. I picked up more than a few.)
This season, that’s the exception. It’s a few opening bars, or part of a concert scene, or something. but they’re not playing the songs in their entirety from beginning to end. For example, last night what’s-her-name sang part of the first verse of her demo but then it cut away to Gunnar on the phone. It moves the plot along faster - but I know I’ve not bought a single song this year. I don’t know if it’s because I haven’t liked them or if I’ve not heard enough to know whether or not I do.
I thought the mother was saying that she (mom) had an abusive childhood and compared to hers (mom’s) childhood, Scarlett’s was easy. But I might have misunderstood.
That said, though, there are plenty of situations where one kid gets labeled a black sheep, becomes the scapegoat, and gets all the abuse, while nothing really happens to the the others. So it’s possible that mom had a horrible childhood but Deacon didn’t.
Well, you’re also correct that Deacon has never really said anything about his childhood. Since there’s clearly addiction/alcoholism running in that family, though, it wouldn’t surprise me to learn there had been abuse in that home, whoever it was directed toward.
