Tony and Ziva were very popular on NCIS. Both characters left the show. Ziva left at the beginning of season 11. Tony stayed through season 13. I’m excited to see this new 10 episode series.
It will be an entirely different show. They were investigators on NCIS and the focus was solving killings of Navy and Marine personnel.
This time Tony and Ziva are the ones being pursued.
Mrs. Solost and I had stopped watching before de Pablo left the show. I had heard she left and wondered if they killed off the Ziva character like they did the previous character Tony also had a love / hate flirty relationship with. Guess they didn’t.
NCIS is one of those shows I can turn on without having to engage my brain too much. Most shows are so serious it can be an emotional slog to get through even if they are really good otherwise. I can watch NCIS and play on my phone at the same time.
So how old would Tali be by this point? Maybe 10-ish? I wouldn’t be all that surprised if they just go ahead and age her up to a teenager. Tony and Ziva versus their sullen teenage quip machine is going to be TV gold. Plus, when she is kidnapped (and it’s almost mandatory in a show like this that the child of the main couple be kidnapped), she’d be old enough to really kick some ass as she escapes.
Meh. Action, adventure, international locales, quips & wisecracks, yet it all felt kind of by the numbers and done before. Will we still watch? Probably.
Plot-wise, apparently the MacGuffin (magic thumb drive) was a red herring to draw out Ziva, who was the real target…I think?
While the leads are as appealing as ever, the flashback-heavy structure is rather offputting–it is pretty difficult to pull that off successfully, and it really isn’t working here, esp. as it requires a different younger actress for their daughter. I also am not a fan of lame wrong accusation plots, esp. given the perfunctory way in which it was laid out. While the female mole/villainness looks to be an intriguing character, my suspension of disbelief often takes a hit when they are able to easily infiltrate a prominent organization far too easily as she has.
The soap opera-ish elements I don’t care for either, esp. episode 3’s couple (Tony’s fling and her surprise husband), who turn out to be swingers, leading to some rather awkward moments. The shrink I like (Ziva certainly has had like 5 lifetimes of trauma to deal with), and the show obviously needs to have some mechanism to fill in the viewer on all the stuff which took place after the leads left NCIS (as in what put a wedge between Tony and Ziva), but right now this feels like an expanded and bloated two-parter, meaning the pace is glacial so far.
I’ll stick with it for now, but it really needs to wow me at some point.
Sure, it’s spelled differently, but come on. There’s a reason no woman has been named that since 1950. I’ve never seen NCIS, but even before I looked it up I knew that the actress wasn’t Israeli, because no Hebrew speaker would agree to that name.
Holy crap, that would have been one of the LAST words in the English dictionary that I would have guessed. My suppositions would have included “sparrow”, “moon”, “star”, or “sunrise”…
I mean, just how hard would it be to check a Hebrew dictionary first (by the original NCIS writers)? Sheesh.
I mean, Ziva IS an old Hebrew name, spelled זיוה, while the disease is spelled זיבה, and technically, the former is pronounced “ZEE-vah” while the latter is pronounced “zee-VAH”, but there’s a reason the name has fallen out of fashion.
I watched the 1st and 2nd episode. It’s nice seeing Tony and Ziva again.
I’m not thrilled with the heavy emphasis on a super powerful hacking program. There are other ways to put Tony and Ziva in danger. They have made many enemies throughout their careers.
Have they announced the number of episodes? I’m not interested in seeing this story with them being chased dragged out for very long. Certainly not for multiple seasons.
I’ll keep watching. Maybe it will get more interesting. Something better than cars programmed to kill Tony.
Michael Weatherly has resurrected Tony and left behind Bull. I wasn’t sure Michael could pull off a action character at 57.
Cote de Pablo needs more work to bring back Ziva. I don’t see the confidence, intensity, and spark that made Ziva interesting on NCIS. Ziva was like juggling a .357 magnum with the safety off.
Yeah, the Paramount app on our Firestick is terrible. It freezes up; when it does work, sometimes the fast forward, reverse and caption controls randomly become inoperable. When FF and reverse DO work, they go so fast you blow right by the place you wanted to go to. Often if I stop a movie or show in the middle and start it up later, it starts at the beginning again. I don’t know why it’s so difficult for them to build a working app. The Netflix and Hulu apps generally work flawlessly.
One fix I found when the Paramount app is freezing up (this is Firestick-specific, so YMMV) is to go to ‘settings —> manage applications —> Paramount app’ and choose ‘force stop’ and ‘clear cache’. That seems to set it right for awhile.
My grandma’s best friend was named that, I do think she was born before 1950 though (afaik she was the same age as my grandma who was born in the British Mandate era). I’m wracking my brain trying to think of a younger Ziva but all I can think of is Ziv which is a gender neutral name as of the 90s.
