When you do a CTRL+F search for a word, every instance of that word is highlighted in the scroll bar. Take a gander:
Go here. Hit CTRL+F to do a search, and start typing something (like “philosophy”). The feature is dynamic, and will constantly change as you continue typing. This is great because when I search for something, looking for every instance, it will loop around to the beginning, which can be annoying (“Munch made 3 mentions (or was it just two?) of cotton candy in this thread - that seems excessive”). Very cool.
Me too - I had done a search with just one result, and I was freaking out that my monitor was going hinky. Then I saw that it lined up with the found word.
The one thing I don’t like is having to open a new tab to go to my bookmarks. Anyone have a better solution? The lack of a normal task bar is tough to get used to.
Edit: nevermind - there’s a “show bookmark bar” option.
This feature is also home to a rather embarrassing bug–or at least it used to be. On a really large page, Chrome would lock up the computer to look up everything. Thus, if you didn’t type fast enough, you’d have to wait 3 minutes between each key press.
I’m not sitting at home now (and therefore no Chrome), but it works with Opera and FF, and I think Chrome does it, too. Rather than ctrl+F, you can hit front slash (/) and it’ll pop up a quick search box so you don’t even have to close the search box when you’re done typing.
