Looking for some stuff to download off Napster. So far I got:
Christmas with the Devil by Spinal Tap
No Presents This Christmas by Mercyful Fate
I am Santa Claus (the Iron Man parody)
Santa is Dead by the Bloody Stools (cant find it though)
I heard a bitchin’ version of Carol of the Bells on the radio this morning. (Never would have occurred to me that you could use electric guitars well in that song had I not heard it myself.) Hubby said vaguely that he heard that it had been made by Serbian musicians, and the dark, heavy metal feel of it was a cry of protest against war.
I second Christmas in Hollis by Run DMC. Another good xmas song (not really a song though) is “The night before christmas” by Snoop Dogg. Good if you are partial to…well its by Snoop Dogg, so you could guess what its about.
I’ll wager you’re thinking of “Carol of the Bells” as performed by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra with special guests Metallica. Rippin’ good song; I love CotB.
FYI, the CD is Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas Eve and Other Stories. As the above poster notes, no mention of Metallica. No mention of TSO background either, for that matter. The instrumental that riffs on Carol of The Bells (and God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman) is Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24.
It sure made me laugh my ass off and get into the holiday spirit at the same time. I ferget the exact name of the album, but I think the album was called something like “Merry Ismas”. It’s a reggae christmas album by big, fat Rastafarian Jacob Miller (if my tattered memory serves me right). He made a christmas album with lots of classics like “Deck the halls with kali-weed!” (fa-la-la-la and all that…)
If you like to have the munchies before you get stuck in to that turkey (or whatever you eat for the holidays), Ismas could be the holiday for you! And all these years I’ve been celebrating Christmas and missing out on Ismas!
In regards to the TSO with Metallica I just went to Napster and looked up Trans-Siberian Orchestra and found The Carol of the Bells with Metallica written after it. I’m not sure if this is a new song not on the Christmas Eve or Christmas Attic cds or if it’s mislabeld.
