Need help finding Philadelphia billboard ad of a bride giving a ring finger salute

From a large billboard ad on one of the interstate roads going out of of Philadelphia toward Delaware. The pic was of an unhappy bride giving viewers the “ring” finger. It said something like “she’s waited long enough” or similar text with the jewelers name at the bottom. Is this a strictly local ad, or is this a nationwide ad campaign? is the pic anywhere online?

I don’t know, but THANK YOU for posting this. I saw it heading south on 95, somewhere between the Ben Franklin Bridge and the airport, on Friday. It was not quite 7 AM, so I was fairly certain that I was actually hallucinating. Good to know it actually exists.

I’m pretty sure it’s for Robbins 8th & Walnut, a Philly-area jeweler. I saw a couple of them recently on the PA Turnpike and thought ‘wow, Robbins has changed their style of advertising’. When I was a kid they had a bunch of doo-wop-style radio ads, so the ad playing on the ‘giving the finger’ image is sort of gonzo for them.

I’m not 100% sure it’s for them, but maybe 90%.

i’ve seen it as well. yes, ninjachick, it is on 95.

it could be robbins. the brothers don’t sing any more, but robbins does have “odd” adverts.

No, I don’t think it’s Robins, but I don’t remember who it is. (There’s more than one – I saw it southbound on 95 somewhere above Center City.)

Yes, between 95 and the river, a bit south of the Ben Franklin Bridge, oriented to be seen from 95.

There is one on the right shortly after you come off the Broad Street bridge (I-95) southbound. (Before the airport). We saw while headed south after a Flyers game.

it’s for robbin’s diamonds. there’s one on the 76-95 interchange. made sure to double check what it was as I passed it today!

Funny how you all remembered the billboard, but weren’t positive who it was advertising for!

Found a pic.

ah, yes, the brother who has a diamond in his beard. he did seem the more “out there” brother.

kittenblue, it reminds me of the commercials where the quarterback takes a hit, they ask him a series of questions ending with, “what is your name?”

he answers, “i’m batman!” the series of commercials were really clever. no one, not one person i surveyed, could tell me what the commercial was selling.

i had to keep pencil and paper by my chair, and the next time i saw the commercial, i wrote it down.

It’s definitely Robbins Diamonds. I doubt that many are familiar with their ads outside of Philadelphia… but they’re really, really annoying. Robbins is some creepy old guy with a beard… but there’s a diamond stuck in the beard. And he’s all like, “Yeeeeah.” It’s creepy.

Also, often on youtube I’ll have to stare at that girl with the damn ring finger as I watch movies. I’m not sure which is worse, though: Robbins Diamonds or Steven Singer, who’s a competing jeweler. Singer’s ad campaign is “I hate Steven Singer,” and that phrase is omnipresent in this area; it’s on billboards, it’s on television, it’s even between songs. The worst part is, it doesn’t make sense. Why would someone hate Steven Singer? Because men have to fork over so much money to him? But isn’t that the opposite of what they want you to think; isn’t saving money supposed to be the objective?

I loved that ad:

And, the other one from about the same time (“great googly moogly!”):

i thought the whole series was fantastic. my favourite was when he asked a defensive player if he wanted a ride in the batmobile. the look on the player’s face!

i guess they figure it is a success if you remember the ad.

the robbins diamonds one does startle you a bit when you see it.
