I’m looking into buying a nice wintery coat, since I don’t own one right now and always steal my husband’s fleece. I want something that’s mine, and feminine.
I started off looking at peacoats, but found they were too short for my liking. I wanted something longer. I was looking at this one, or something similar length. With or without that faux fur collar. I think I kind of like it, though. Tell me if I’m horribly out of touch.
Now, what type of boots could I get that would go well with it? I’d like a pair of boots that I can wear at least somewhat casually, too, not too much heel (but a little doesn’t scare me). Something that I could wear dark blue jeans with sometimes, but if I chose to wear a skirt/dress and my nice new coat, would look a little snazzy.
Would a shorter boot be better? A slouch? A taller boot? Brown or black (would it depend on that faux fur bit)? Another colour maybe? They don’t need to be too warm, since it doesn’t seem to get that cold out here in Seattle. But we’re planning a trip to Leavenworth for Christmas, and I hear they’ve got snow up there in the mountains.
I don’t want one of those rounded toes (a la Dr. Marten), but super pointy Peter Pan Getaway shoes are out of the question. A softer point might be okay. Too flat of a point looks funny to me.
But what do I know? That’s why I’m coming to you! Help!
I suggest something like this
Thank you for the suggestion, Revenant Threshhold, I like those boots quite a bit.
I like the brown, but I was wondering, would black hideously clash with that brown trim on the coat? I want to get gloves, too, but I already have those picked out - I can just as easily pick them up in brown, and I want to match. And what of a hat! Now that I’m thinking of it… I could probably knit myself a pretty little beret or something… or would that be tacky? Ugh, so many things to match!
Any other suggestions to go with Revenant’s? I like to shop
That’s a lovely coat.
How long are the skirts you’re planning to wear with the boots? I happen to like the look of high boots with short skirts, but I can’t claim it’s entirely for reasons of fashion.
The boots Revenant Threshold chose are very nice and I quite like them. With a coat like that, however, I might choose a very plain high boot. Something like this, perhaps.
Bear in mind, however, that though I like beautiful clothes, I often fail at dressing well.
I usually wear shorter skirts, above the knee, anyway. I’d likely usually be wearing more dressy pants, since it will be winter, but I like to wear a skirt or dress if we’re going to go eat somewhere nice, or heck, just for a nice change of pace. I’ve got great legs, I need to show 'em off, and they look fantastic in pantyhose (I hate to sound like I’m bragging, but there’s so little about my body I like, I have to have something to be proud of!
)
Erg, I’m browsing through coats, and they have this same one in blue - but it’s frustrating, they have a sale on the cover, and it looks like this same jacket, but with a dark gray collar - swoon! I’ll have to see if they have it in-store. I really like that red one, though. Something about it just seems… classy. Not that I think I’m classy, but it would be nice to own a few classy pieces, just in case I ever, you know, grow up.
The other one I had my eye on is this pretty little number, but where I just dyed my hair a dark brown, and my skin is so pale, I’m afraid it may just wash me out and make me look sickly. So pretty… but I think I need colours.
Anyway, I’m just rambling now. I think I’ll stick with the original red in the end. Someday, I’m going get rich, and then I’m just going to buy them all.
I’m with you on the leg thing. Though I think you’re really pretty and have nothing to worry about, it’s about how you feel about yourself.
The blue and tan coats are quite nice too–I’d get the blue myself, as I already have a red suede jacket, and though I love the idea of all my coats being red, I couldn’t bring myself to actually do it.
If you’re planning on leather gloves and boots, I wouldn’t wear a knitted hat, but I think it would be all right with suede.
(I’m just waiting for one of the more fashionable Dopers to come and tell me I’m all wrong, heh.)
