Need Info About Online Detective Services

Today my SO was grabbed by the throat and threatened with death by a whacko woman who lives in the apt. complex. The cops just sort of blew it off;you know, call us back when you’re dead, etc.

She told the owner of the complex and he believed her,but he also said,“It looks like she’s having a relapse.” That,to me,sounds suspiciously like she may have done some time, perhaps in a mental hospital.

So I went to google and looked up some detective services. I want to know what I can about this scarey woman, who is always doing something weird, but may have gone off her medication or is hearing voices through her tv telling her she’s god’s executioner or something. And she’s big; I’m 6’ and she is one or two inches taller than me.

Okay,I found one service called NET DETECTIVE that says I can get 3 years of happy intruding for 29.00. That,if I can get the info I want, seems reasonable, but I have no experience with these sites.

So,would anyone who has used one of these sites please tell me what’s good or bad about them, and recommend one if you think it’s good.

Of course, what I’m interested in is criminal information.

Can’t fool you,can I? Yeah,it’s a bump. But this is important to me. I’ve been with my SO about 32 years, and I don’t want that ended by some maniac who finally flips.

I’ve never used a net detective service, but I would definitely press charges if a neighbor grabbed me by the throat and threatened me. I would also have a restraining order before God could blink twice.

Your family doesn’t need to put up with and be afraid of this woman. She ASSAULTED your SO and should be handled accordingly. You filed a police report, right? Call a lawyer next. Let them know how you felt the cops handled it and ask what kind of next steps you can take. But before anything, GET AN ORDER OF PROTECTION!

You are not going to get diddle for $29 so forget that nonsense…might as well use that money and get a damned big lock on your door.

I agree, however, with pressing charges and get a lawyer involved with some form of restraining order. At least then the next time whacko neighbor goes postal, you can call the police and they will have to arrest her!

And you know, if you are savvy enough to get on the web and be with us here at SDMB, my guess is you might be able to do some good detective work by yourself on line as well. Practice on your Google, and see what you come up with.

Good luck!

Yeah, she’s going to see about a restraining order tomorrow. She just got her car fixed today, and by that time it was too late to drive to the county seat to do it.We composed a letter for the owner to give to his attorney, and he’s going to try to get her out on a 3 day eviction notice. This,of course will infuriate her,so SO may go to stay with her cousin who lives not far from here until the loon is gone. She will still know the gate code, though, and she has a friend who lives here who would let her in anyway.Unlessshe does something to insure some serious jail time,we will just have to live watching our backs.Barb is carrying pepper spray and a cell phone at all times now,but that’s hardly a guarantee of safety.

How do you know about onine detective sites.Do you know someone who’s tried them? Just from browsing the few I looked at,I know you can spend one or two hundred dollars on some of them. Are you saying that the reason the one I quoted is useless is because any good ones will cost much more,or that all of them are useless?

I’m really surprised that no one has posted who has used one.

Anyway, thanks to both of you for your concern, and hopefully this too shall pass.

Can you talk to a lawyer about utilizing this mess as a means to break your current lease? It sucks to have to move because of this, but if you feel your family is in danger and you know that she has people who will let her into the complex even after being evicted and thusly infuriated, you may want to look into it.

You and your wife shouldn’t have to live in fear.

If she’s going to carry pepper spray (or any other self-defense weapon), I recommend that she takes a class in how to use it. I recall reading several articles (and hearing some stats at my martial arts school) about how dangerous that sort of stuff it unless one is properly trained (i.e. creates a false sense of security). You don’t need a bodyguard-level course, but there should be something.

I’d also advise moving if you’re really that scared, living in constant terror isn’t something I think most people want to do.
