Need recommendationed reading for the parent of a headstrong 4-year-old

rainydrop number 2 is a headstrong, headstrong, headstrong child. I hope that throughout his life that tenaciousness will serve him well. But for now, it gets him in trouble…all the time. We go over the same things everyday. 2 is a good kid, smart, loving, but he is a button pusher.

So anyone been in my shoes and have a recommendation for a good book on the subject.

Thanks all.

1-2-3 Magic: Effective Discipline for Children 2-12

Every Parent: A Positive Approach to Children’s Behavior
by Matthew R. Sanders

These books ARE endorsed by clinicians at my children’s hospital : ) They also like the 1-2-3 Magic videos. YMMV, all kids are different, standard disclaimers and all that. I have no munchkins of my own.

One thing that’s important to determain, is he headstrong for everybody? Or does he just enjoy pushing YOUR buttons. It makes a big difference. Good luck

Just been doing some research on this and it has a pretty strong evidence base:

Oh it’s everybody. Well especially his mother and I, and the babysitter – pretty much anyone who tries to shape his behavior. He actually behaves the best for me, but that’s because I am on him all the time. Sometimes I go to bed at night thinking, did I do anything other than correct him today?

Raising Your Spirited Child

Nurture by nature

What both these books have in common is that it is ok to use strategies for raising children that differ from your other children and from more “mainstream” ideas. I have two kids and my older child was pretty intense. I use very different strategies for him than for my younger one. These books were extremely helpful in finding what actually WORKS and not keep trying over and over what I thought I was supposed to do.

Proverbs 13:24 (“Spare the rod…”)
and
Proverbs 23:13-14 (“Withhold not correction from a child…”)

Love and Logic. Worked great with mine.
