need someone who's seen You Me + Dupree

So, my brother’s going to be my best man, and I was looking for little gag gifts for him and for the other groomsmen. I saw a best man t-shirt that says “BM” in big letters in a green logo, which I thought was good for a chuckle.

Then the website said it’s inspired by or just like the shirt from the movie. I haven’t seen it, and have no particular desire to. What’s the shirt’s reference? How is it used in the film?

Haven’t seen it, but I’m not sure there’s really a story behind so much as, uhm, Dupree wore a shirt like that in the movie. Even the movie spoiler site just says:

Dupree then tells Carl that he wonders if there’s something that they could do to his bridegroom’s shirt to show that he’s the Best Man. He suggests something subtle – a lightning bolt perhaps. Carl is a little surprised, and tells him that it’s mentioned in the program. Dupree pretends to be satisfied, but Carl understands.

At the wedding, along with the Hawaiian themed bridegroom shirt that the other guys are wearing, Dupree has a small emblem of a lightening bolt in a circle with the capital letters BM (Best Man) inside. He wears a proud smile as the happy couple walks down the aisle.

I’m sure someone will be along with a mor ethorough answer, but here’s the gist of it. Dupree is a screw up, but he wears his Best Man badge with honor, like it’s an official rank or something. What I mean by that in his mind there are certain ‘traditions’ in his mind that come with the honored designation of ‘best man’.

In the end there there’s a scene where dupree help resolve a conflict in the move. As he crashes through the ceiling he’s covered in dirt but able to hold up his “BM” badge with pride.

Well you can understand my concern. If it’s “hey his patch says BM, that’s kinda funny, he thinks he’s a superhero and those are kinda funny initials”, that’s one thing. If he, like, smears the aisle with feces on wedding day and that’s the movie’s “joke”, I don’t think I need to associate with that

If you’d seen this movie, you’d know smearing the aisle with feces is too classy a joke to be included in it.
