I really like these ones, suggested by others - On Golden Lawn, Cash Up Front, Golden Prospect, and Hi Opal.
But I’m not getting: Hassan Chop.
It’s a reference to a Middle Eastern character (actually, I think it may have been a pissed off Genie from a lamp) in an old Bugs Bunny Cartoon. He kept swinging a scimitar and shouting “Hassan Chop!” (thus betraying his not at all humanitarian intentions). I believe it came up because of the sire’s Arabic name.
Thanks all for your great responses. I am impressed!!! There are so many great choices it will be hard to pick just one. In fact some are such great choices that they have are all ready been used. Here are the ones already in use:

The list you have come up will be voted on, the top votes will then be put on a final list and then voted on once again. I will let you all know who the finalists are, and then the new name for the colt.
Shirley,
I think the Jockey Club is very leery to approve a name in other languages because often a direct translation may seem innocent, but for people who speak the language they know it as slang for something offensive to some. Also, the main reason for the Jockey Club requires owners who want to race their horses to have the name “approved” is for the bettors, who drive the industry. If many horses had strange unpronouceable, (to the average American) names, then it would be difficult for the bettors to follow those horses and know who they were betting. That is why they won’t approve a name that is too similiar to another resgistered horse. The name “Lawn Ranger”, which I LOVED, was suggested here, but there is already one called “The Lawn Ranger” so it would not be approved even though it is slightly different. Many spanish words are familiar to the average American, so those usually get approved. Even if someone here has not learned to speak spanish, they know “Gato del Sol” means Sun Cat and can be remembered. The Arabic names usually show up here like Mutakddim has, named somewhere else, but owners like to make reference to the sire’s name if possible.
And I will definately keep you up-to-date on this colt’s progress. His sire has had just four crops, and of those produced 54 stakes winners, very impressive. And one of those, Lady Tak, has earned over a million dollars and set a grade 1 stakes record. And his dam’s sire is America’s leading sire of stakes winners, stakes wins, winners and wins. So he definately has the pedigree, can’t wait to see how he does.
The Scrivener----the colt was foaled in Prospect Kentucky. He will stay there until ready for training, and train and race in Kentucky. He won’t be gelded unless he has to be. He has a great pedigree, and we are hoping he does well and can eventually retire to stud. He is a bay, with two white socks.
don’t ask-----I think Sea Biscuit was a great racehorse with a funny name. But the name makes sense because he was the son of “Hard Tack.”
bobkitty----my last filly should have been named, “I am never going to make it to the track because I eat everything in sight, including the straw for my bed, but I will be loved and adored by many 4-H kids for whom I will be the first horse they ever ride, knowing I will NEVER move faster than a slow walk, and thus bring about a new generation of horse lovers, thank you very much.”
Thanks again for all your great suggestions. I have a Sir Cat/French Reign baby due in March, so I will be hoping to use your creative naming ideas again after we know if we have a new filly or colt.
Sir Cat/French Reign:

French Toast would be a most excellent name for a horse and help drive up concession stand sales as well.
And, because it needs to be a name on something Hawley Smoot Tarif Act.
Yeah, I know. cut.it.out.
I can see a few here:
-
Leroi Chat (Le roi is French for the king, and chat is cat.)
-
Leroy Chat (Simplified spelling, for the bettors.)
-
French Knight
-
Le Chevalier
-
Cats Rule
-
Questfortheking
-
Quest for Leroy
-
Sir Leroy
-
Leroy’s Quest
-
Lancelot Chat (Hmmm…maybe not. Sounds like it belongs to a 900 number.)
Question: Is Storm Cat in the pedigree at all? Then we could have:
- Thunder and Reign
They’re some ideas, anyway. I’ll see if I can come up with more.
A neighbor of mine combined his wife’s name, Betty, with his name, Charlie, to come up with “Betcha!” to name their boat! Even if you’re not Betty or Charlie, that’s still a cool sounding name, don’t you think? - Jinx
Mr. Meow / Ms. Meow
Sir Oui / Madam Oui
Quebec Kitty
Feline Frenchy
Sieste
Mr. Minou / Ms. Minou
Meow Oui
Kibbles
Better yet, change your name to Betty or Charlie ( betty is best if you are a guy) to name the horse Betcha! Just sayin’.
