Needed: list of media outlets and contact numbers

I belong to a women’s entreprenuerial group interested in obtaining a comprehensive list of national and regional media outlets that would include contact names/telephone numbers for weeklies, trade journals, magazines, cable and radio. (We hope to interest them in our group and thus increase our visibility as a speakers’ forum for national opinion leaders.)

Is there a good source that provides this information? Any web-based?

Probably the best source for this sort of thing is Bacon’s. They’ve been in the business for years, and have recently taken their directories online. You can get a free two-day trial on their site, but I don’t know if you have to commit to something first.

Another excellent source for list generation is MediaMap. I’m not sure if they have any free options or not, but they do have an extensive database.
As an aside, I don’t want to put a sales pitch in GQ, but the company I work for is in the press release distribution business, and might be able to help out. If you’re interested, e-mail me and I can point you in the right direction.

We are hoping to find something that is free–we are a church-based group and relatively new.

You may have to contact each by email. I have a few links to worldwide news sources:

Weird. I stumbled across this on Slate.com only a few hours ago. Granted, it is not comprehensive. For example, the media outlet I work for is not listed where it should be.
