Neil Armstrong Speaks, Anybody Know The Details?

Apparently, Neil Armstrong spoke at a dinner in Houston last week. In his speech he is quoted as saying

Anybody have the details on this? The article makes it sound like Armstrong is wholly behind the idea, I’m wondering if he didn’t say something like, “But I think that we can and should do more.” as well.

Why would something like that not be reported? I suspect you’re letting you personal view of the man color what you wish him to have said. Take it at face value.

Actually, I have no view of the man, other than I admire him for being one of the few men to walk on the Moon. I would think that if Armstrong did whole heartedly endorse Bush’s space iniative, it would be big news. Armstrong’s a fairly private man and doesn’t make the rounds like Buzz or some of the other astronauts, so for him to say anything about the space program should be big news, yet there’s very little mention of what he did say in the article, and it certainly hasn’t been reported on cnn.com at all.

Indeed - you’d expect something like that to be reported. Too bad we have no search tools to determine if it was.

Great, the identical article from a different source. You know, letting Armstrong say something about exploration and not having it readily available is like letting Christopher Columbus say something about exploration and not recording it, or ignoring Charles Lindburgh when he talks about flying a plane, or Henry Ford discussing building cars. Yeah it might be the ravenings of a senile old man, then again, it might not. Without a transcript of what was said, we’ve no way of knowing, and certainly future historians will be curious.

How about this, then? Not a full transcript, but more quoted material, all unfortunately platitudinous, though.
