Neir Automata

I picked this up last night and started playing it this morning. A lot of fun so far. The combat is challenging without being Dark Souls level brutal (don’t get me wrong I like Dark Souls just sayin’). The story seems interesting so far. The way the game transitions from a shoot em up to a 3D fighter to a 2D platformer is extreme well done. Controls are slick but I’d highly recommend a controller, although it does technically support mouse/keyboard. If anybody has any questions about the game I’ll try to answer them if I can, although again I’m very early.

I’ve read it’s divided up into three parts. Much of each of the three parts is identical. Seems like a dumb/ boring idea to me. Le us know what you think of the game after you finish it.

The gall of some game architects.

I bought it for PS4 but have not gotten to play yet.

So what’s the basic plot of the game? I’ve seen screenshots and stuff but not the “You are X who is doing Y to save the world” part.

I downloaded the demo on PS4. It looks amazing and the transitions between the different camera angles and play styles are great. But is the whole game just fighting constantly? I usually prefer games that have more variety of other stuff to do besides constant battles.

It’s a sequel to Nier which is a spin-off from the first Drakengard game. Drakengard was a dark fantasy game, while Nier took place in a more modern setting. Nier Automata is a post-apocalyptic setting where machines controlled by invaders of Earth are at war with machines controlled by what’s left of humanity. You play a few combat androids caught in the middle of the war, and sent by humans to fight the invasion. It looks like most of the characters are androids interacting with each other and taking on missions to win the war.

There’s no real spoilers here. All of this is revealed near the start of the game.

The basic plot is that aliens attacked the Earth with machines. Humanity lost and fled to the moon. The humans eventually build themselves back up to fight back and build an orbital platform, Bunker, from which to stage attacks. The counter attack is spearheaded by androids. You play as one of these androids 2B. Your mission is to eliminate the machine threat on Earth so that humanity can reclaim its home. Glory to mankind! (the androids say this a lot in the game)

There have already been some twists and turns in Act 1 which I will not discuss due to spoilers, but the story is pretty compelling so far.

There’s a crafting system that allows you upgrade your gear but it is pretty heavily tied to exploring and so in turn combat. The game is very combat heavy for certain. There’s no building or anything. Treat it as an action RPG.

Congratulations, you win the obscure pun of the month award.:stuck_out_tongue:
