Really? So you believe that white culture is some sort of Stepford Wives utopia? Even in “white culture” there’s a HUGE HUGE variance depending on things like class and location and religion. There’s white trash/rednecks/ middle class/upper class “preppy” white.
Why is learning about other cultures teh EVIL? Why is being diverse EVIL?
Or would you rather we go back to the old days when being from the wrong church got you demonized? (a la the way it was in Belfast during the Troubles)
It does seem like a lot of Stormfronters/neoNazis have racial issues and class issues completely and utterly mixed up. 80 years ago they would have been anti Catholic, or anti Italian/Irish b/c GUESS WHAT? Italian and Irish people were dealing with the EXACT same stuff that blacks do today! They were poor and lived in dangerous slums! :eek: They were thought to be inherently bad… Heck lots of white people have major issues themselves.
He’s probably wondering whether Dagos and Micks are part of Anglo Culture, or if they’re still filthy papist immigrants who are ruining our country.

What “dumbass hippie fantasy”? American always was that. From long before independence.
According to that scholarly publication, the group “European-American” includes people as disparate as the Portuguese, Icelanders, Scottish, Maltese, Turks, Azerbaijani, Russians… the only things we (?) all have in common is a rather varied degree of melanin deficiency, a common origin from a rather widespread chunk of the Earth’s landmass, and a long history of waging bloody wars on each other.

This is one of those OLD names that really sounds made up and/or “ethnic” - its really neither.

Nevertheless, America has always been “a beautiful, diverse multicultural rainbow.” Not always a just one, but always beautiful and diverse.
White Studies is not actually some racist thing. It came out of critical race theory, and it looks at the cultural construction of “whiteness” as a social status. It’s kind of how gender studies looks at gender: it’s about what our culture means by “man” or “woman”, but it also acknowledges that those are, in themselves, diverse categories. It’s only about deconstructing white culture insofar as us Americans have proclaimed “white” a thing in opposition to black, Latino, Asian, etc. It’s really a complex social theory, and one that explicitly defines race as a cultural construct, and not at all something that supports your very sad views.

There are even works that suggest that “whiteness” can apply differentially to groups that are generally considered “white,” e.g., the Irish in the nineteenth century. Historian Neil Foley, in his book The White Scourge: Mexicans, Blacks, and Poor Whites in Texas Cotton Culture, argues that poor whites were often seen as “non-white” in Texas during the early 20th century, because they were closely associated with Mexicans and blacks who occupied similar socio-economic places in society.
“White studies” is not only NOT white supremacy, it is pretty explicitly about repudiating the notion of racial superiority based on skin color, and is also about investigating the complexity of the social and cultural idea of whiteness as something that is about more than the amount of melanin you happen to have..
I am with you. It makes me feel sick too. This is a 10 year old kid whose life is totally screwed up now. I do not know what the father talk at home. It would be speculating for me to guess. But this kid is now a murderer. The emotional trauma has to be enormous.
It’s ridiculous IMO to say that there is not a predominantly white-Anglo culture in the US. Sure it isn’t equally prevalent everywhere, and sure white people participate in it to widely divergent degrees depending on all kinds of factors, but it clearly exists. Just because so many white Americans are too close to it to see it for what it is (as opposed to just being some sort of default normal) doesn’t mean it’s not there.
The whole American myth of what America means, individual freedom, Mom, apple pie, baseball and church picnics, friendliness/politeness, the high value of independence, upward mobility, hard work, rock and roll, country music … I could go on and on and on. It’s a real thing.
That doesn’t make Lonesome Polecat any less of a doofus.
