Network Neighborhood disappeared

In Win98SE, the icon for Network Neighborhood on the desktop seemed to be there permanently. I tried once to move it to another folder’s desktop icon (“Misc”, that I created), but got message that could not be done, so just ignored it. Also noted that it could not be deleted either.

Recently, I noticed that it was no longer on the desktop, and a Find search did not located it anywhere on the HDD. I certainly don’t recall doing anything that would account for this disappearance.

A Google search had one hit that said if TweakUI had been used to disable it, it could also be used to return it, but I don’t have TweakUI on my computer, nor did I ever use it.

Wassup? Any idea why it vanished, where it went and how can retrieve it if ever needed?

I believe it’s tied to “Client For Microsoft Networks” being installed in the network setup. If that has been removed you can try putting it back.

Also, even if you don’t have TweakUI it is a handy program for Win98:
