Just heard back!
Yes, they are his drives, and he wants them back with the data intact. Which is just a whole other level of WTF.

Disaster avoided!
Shame they were “already”
wiped per corporate IT standard XYZ.123.
Sometimes people need to touch the stove to understand it’s hot.
Return them with an annoy-a-tron hidden among them.
Inquiring minds want to know: how did she do in the in-person interview, where she was presumably unable to use AI in front of them to frame her answers? And did they hire her?
Sorry I wasn’t clear, they eventually decided not to fly her in for in-person interviews, the next candidate was better. I was just amazed&disgusted it was even an option.
My boss’s boss (the head of our group) called me up out of the blue to thank me for all my hard work and tell me how much they appreciate what I’m doing.
I’m kind of thinking to myself “…uhhh…yeah is there a ‘but’ here like ‘…but we can’t extend your contract’ or '…but we’re going out of business next week,”
Apparently no. She just called to thank me for the work I was doing for the past 6 months.
So I’m not really sure what sort of sick game she’s playing.
That would unnerve the shit outta me too. Unless, miracle or miracle, she was the sort of grandboss who routinely handed out such praise.
I’m having to attend a department wide “all-hands” call. I hate these wastes of time.
So. Much. Jargon.
Well, it’s like they say. Jargon is the institutional multi-channel scalable communications framework by which we enable transformative enterprise strategic alignment.
Gesuntheit!
At an all-faculty-for-the-whole-school-district “Love-In”, I was surprised by the magnitude of academia/buisness clichés. So I drew a “Biz-word Buzzword Bingo” (center square was PARADIGM), ducked out and made 200 copies, then passed them out.
Dean StickUpHerButt asked “WHOOO did this?”
I stood and took a bow, but never got in any more trouble. In fact, one dean came up to me afterward, said she liked my attitude and asked if I’d be willing to work with “troubled high schoolers”* (due to my maturity level?).
*So I did, and had a blast with all the troublemakers!
We had an IT all-hands this week. I didn’t go, probably forgot or was busy. Turns out it was for layoffs and we lost about 10% of the national team. Maybe I should go to these more often
As long as your fate isn’t decided by your attendance, why?
How would your life be better had you been there?
I dunno, it ultimately didn’t have much bearing on my day to day work life. It’s nice to know as it happens and not hear about it later though
The ‘all hands call’ that turns out to be a corporate rah-rah session and just stops you getting on with something that matters.
