New Avengers movie title

Just saw on the official Avengers Facebook page that the second movie will be titled The Age of Ultron. Unless someone is screwing with us…

Googling it seems to confirm it.

Had never heard of Ultron. Seems to be the Marvel version of Brainiac, the robot/computer intelligence who keeps coming back, over and over.

A bit more malevolent with lots of Oedipus complex issues.

It is official; Joss Whedon announced it at Comic Con today.

I believe there was a winking hint at the end of “Iron-Man 3” that Ultron would be the villain of the next Avengers movie. Stark is shown driving away from his compound in a vehicle with a logo that read something like “stark-tron 5.”

So are they bringing in Henry Pym or are they rebooting Ultron’s origin?

Didn’t Thanos appear in a teaser scene at the end of the first movie? Are they just dumping him and going in a new direction? Hardly seems fair to the viewers…

Maybe they’re setting Thanos up as an uber-boss for the third movie?

Whedon has also said he wants to use the Skrulls in an Avengers movie. So Loki, the Chitauri, Thanos, Ultron, the Skrulls - he shouldn’t get too many ideas backed up.

It’s only my humble opinion, but… Ultron is the greatest of all the Avenger’s villains. Hope he’s as hatefilled as he needs to be in this next flick.

Ultron has always been my favorite villain in all of comic-dom. I am seriously pumped for this.

An Ant Man movie is coming out the same year as Avengers 2, so that’ll probably set it up.

ETA: Hmm… Ant Man is scheduled to be released in November, and Avengers 2 in June, so maybe not.

Thanks might be the villain in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Wait, I thought the Chitauri were the Skrulls just with a different name. That not the case?

The Avengers was planned* as a trilogy, with Thanos as the ultimate threat. The first movie kicks off with Loki, who is a pipsqueak on galactic scale, the next movie will upgrade the villain a few levels to Ultron, and Thanos will supposedly be directly involved with the plot of the Avengers.

We’ll also get some more Thanos oriented stuff with the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie, but even there Thanos will presumably not be the villain directly, it’ll be one of his lackeys.

In addition, it’s rumored that the story of Thor: The Dark World will somehow involve the acquisition of the Infinite Gauntlet from Odin’s Vault, so there’s potentially more Thanos stuff in that movie.

The First Phase of Marvel movies teased the Avengers, the Second Phase will presumably tease the galactic Thanos storyline.

*“we’ll make one movie and if it does well it’s a trilogy” style of planning

I believe it is the case.
Oh and BTW, I meant Thanos, not Thanks in my above post.

Sometimes I think I’m a real nerd.

However, I don’t know know who Thanos, Ultron, Skrulls, Chitauri, or the Guardians of the Galaxy are. I register as barely a blip on the nerdiness radar.

Great news. Thanos would be impossible to top, so it’s best he’s the third villain.

Either Stark will be retconned as Ultron’s maker, or Ultron will be explained backasswardly when his creator shows up in the third movie years after his creation. I don’t care for either of those, so I hope they’ve thought of sonething better. I suppose Pym could be in Avengers before his solo flick.

Likewise. I just accept that the nerd cosmos is just too big for any one brain to hold, and don’t worry about it too much.

Yes and no. The Chitauri appeared in the Ultimate Avengers universe and there was a reference to them by a character that (paraphrasing) “they went by many names … the Ferengi, the Skrulls, the Sontarans…” or something along those lines.

Whedon did want the alien invaders to be known as “Skrulls”, but that name (and their shape-shifting “li’l green men” likeness is tied up to possible future “Fantastic Four” movies.
I am stoked about seeing Ultron in the next movie, but I am a little disappointed that it means we will likely never see a live-action version of Kang the Conqueror.
