From what I’ve gathered in various places online and off, Coto and the cast are fairly positive about a Vth season. (Does that make them ions?) It’s Berman that’s spreading the negative vibes. Sour grapes? What really happened at Paramount over the Summer?
Berman, huh? I wish that guy would pack it in already. I’m not sure Coto isn’t going a bit overboard on all the references to TOS (I could live with a show that has the flavor of the original series rather than just all of the name-dropping), but I do think he’s doing a job that’s closer to the mark than Berman and Braga ever got. I still think Scott Bakula, who was personable in Quantum Leap, is completely miscast in this show–he’s wooden, petulant, and uncharismatic–and don’t believe that simply hiring new writers or producers will change that. A shame, actually. I was pulling for the series when it was first announced, then watched the premiere episode and cringed.
I don’t think he’s doing it. There were a lot of them in “The Forge”, but when the Reeves-Stevens folks who wrote it became “executive story editors” in the next two episodes there were fewer.
sigh We have already discussed “Deadalias” and the ep. to which I refer is “Observer Effect,” coming up this Friday, a few days from today. Why can’t you follow my train o’ thought even if it derails on a regular basis?
I’m still working towards a fifth season, but it’s not helping that ENT is being pre-empted for sports in many markets and that SG1 is running in the same time slot.
Might be spillover from the nastiness around the film side. Berman had a notion for the next movie, the studio didn’t like it, he got snippy. Maybe he’s playing politics and threatening to torpedo the whole cash cow if the studio doesn’t stop meddling.
Me, I think the studio should meddle aggressively if it means getting Berman’s increasily inept hand off the tiller. The buzz in the biz is that the Paramount honchos have finally figured out they need to get rid of this guy and bring in some new blood. Fill in your own conspiracy.
Ah ha! I knew something was getting snippy around him. I no longer have a freind at Paramount,* so a lot of the ‘inside’ stuff I used to get is gone now.
Explains tonnes, what you just said, I’ll tell you whut!
*I still have the friend, but she is no longer associated with Paramount. Or, if she is, is a very loose association. Something about some other non Trek sci-fi. I guess I should call, huh?
Sheesh…I was attempting to say “Nnnnnkay?” David Spade style, but a Klingon/Narn moment overcame me and an apostrophe slipped in.
You might get some Moogie but probably no Nookie.
*Anomaly note: Hey, in “Daedalus,” Archer and Dani talk about how demanding their fathers were/are. Archer says his dad told him “Don’t fail” when JA went to flight school.
But…in the Soong/Augments arc, Archer told Phlox that his dad had died when JA was 12 years old, and that was after a few years of painful delirium.
So…did JA go to flight school when he was eight?
Or did the writers goof again? (My money’s on this one.)
Apologist’s answer: Chekov was indeed on board when KNS showed up on that DY100 sleeper ship. He was then, a year or so later, promoted to his bridge position. Cheese!
I’m so LOST
