A Japanese game show.
Another example of Japan creating the world’s weirdest shit.
Two of my favourites from Trigger-Happy TV
I’m not much of a dog lover, but that was just so frickin’ cute! (BTW, it’s an edited version of this clip http://youtube.com/watch?v=2-5jVB6QZPw )
I have the one you linked to in my Favorites but I linked to the other one for people (like me sometimes) who close the window when nothing happens in the first 10 seconds. ![]()
Just to clarify (?) a bit, almost every contestant you see on a Japanese game show is a professional performer of some sort. They tried using ordinary people on game shows and in most cases the response was that it was boring, both since ordinary people don’t react comically on cue (and many of these are staged and rehearsed), and since the pros are under contract and have to do whatever they’re told if they want to eat, you can subject them to pain and humiliation that even the Jackass guys would balk at.
In this case, the girls are members of the pop group Morning Musume.
Today I was introduced to the SwiftKids For Truth and the ads are pretty funny. So far they’ve lambasted Clinton, Edwards, Obama and Giuliani ![]()
Thank you. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Excellent show. My faith in humanity has been restored.
The Heroine to Dark Princess transformation from Neil Gaiman & Dave McKean’s Mirrormask
That was … interesting. I like her little smile at the end.
You’re welcome. ![]()
Also, cat lovers of the SDMB, be sure to check out this piece from Alan Davies’ standup show on the subject of cats.
That is absolutely brilliant! I’ve watched it like three times.
The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain performing Wuthering Heights (HEATHCLIFF!!!) and also having a bash at The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (and trying not to laugh).
Yes it’s novelty music, but both are great tunes anyway, and these guys are talented, so both are done well.
I just found this one . The amusement caused by the song aside, they are rather impressive.
Thelonius Monk performing Blue Monk in Oslo in April 1966 with his quartet. I love the look of cool, collected confidence on Charlie Rouse’s face during his tenor sax solo. And watching Thelonious Monk play is always a trip–he always focuses so intensely, then looks for all the world like he’s going to flub the note, and then always gets it exactly right. You can tell he had the mind of a chess player–two moves ahead of everyone else. Hell of a band, too, although IMO Ben Riley (on drums) could’ve stood to slow down during Larry Gales’ bass solo to keep Gales from looking as slow and deliberate as he did.
The John Coltrane Quartet performing Afro Blue, with a sweet piano solo by McCoy Tyner and a pretty nice one by Coltrane himself to boot. I love that there’s some random white dude kickin’ it by the piano smoking a pipe. I saw a great clip of them performing My Favorite Things with Coltrane on tenor sax in Jazz by Ken Burns, but I can only seem to find him playing soprano sax on YouTube. C’est la vie.
Medeski, Martin & Wood, a more modern trio, playing Think. Props to Argent Towers for linking me to it. These guys are good.
And who can forget these classics? (Not music, just funny and awesome, respectively.)
Brilliant!
It’s been around a while, but I’m still impressed by Mr. Woo - about the most amazing demonstration of physical skill I’ve ever seen.

That guy is my hero.
This video had me going “Whaa…?” the first time, but then I watched it a few more times, and just couldn’t stop laughing.
It’s apparently the animation final of a third year student at UOIT, but he didn’t learn much, I guess…
Continuing The Good, the Bad & the Ugly theme, check out this version of The Ecstasy of Gold.
