New favorite YouTube video

This is my current favorite YouTube video. But maybe that’s just because this could be my cat…

I guess I’m a bit jaded. Go to a few IJA juggling conventions, where you’re in a room with 600 jugglers, where at any given time probably 30 people in the room can do any of that stuff (and do a lot of it while juggling 3, 4, or 5 things with their hands at the same time), and you tend to be less impressed by it.

That’s Pixar compared to these. I’m not sure if Donald is worse than Mickey or vice-versa.

Thanks for the distraction folks. I’d forgotten how much I liked the Kiwi video.

A couple of things

A New Zealand comedy team called Flight of the Conchords. Funny stuff. I guarantee the “It’s business, it’s business time!” refrain will become stuck in your head immediately and will soon be part of your day-to-day nomenclature.

At the risk of sounding like “one of those guys” the Heavenly Day song is a decent tune by Patty Griffin but nothing at all compared to her earlier catalogue. Check out two of the most heartwarming/depressing songs you’ll likely ever hear. Both about lonely old people. Patty is amazing!

Long ride home

Those scare me… Seriously.

Have yourselves a Trekkin’ little Christmas …

Salmo Trutta,

Thanks so much for the Patty Griffin link. Very moving - reminds me of my much loved grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles, all WWII folk. My former mother-in-law owned a diner and was an expert pie-maker. Made me cry.

Making Pies

Something reminded me of this one I was shown a while back. No idea what show it’s from.

I’m wearing boots of escaping! I’m wearing boots of escaping!

That is the funniest thing I’ve EVER seen.

Oh wait, I should contribute: best thing I’ve seen lately is the Daft Punk girls. Choreography must have taken HOURS.

Devo performing “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”, apparently from SNL – really a hell of a performance. I enjoyed this immensely.

That’s from “Reno 911”.

My girldfriend loves this One. I admit it’s pretty funny, and I don’t even know why.

Looks like it’s from “Reno 911”

Edit: Arg, I hate it when I don’t refresh a window I loaded earlier.

Ok here is a good one… it’s a German juggling duo called Get the Shoe. I saw them perform at the IJA festival in Winston-Salem this summer and it was the most amazing performance of juggling I’ve ever seen; in addition to being flawlessly performed, it was also funny as hell. I also met them and they’re really, really nice guys*. You can see the trailer for the piece here:

and another clip of it here from Japanese TV:

The premise is that the one guy is trying to steal the other guy’s shoes, and they have a sort of fight/duel with juggling. It’s done as a sort of live-action kung fu movie with all the mugging to the audience, weird sound effects, off-sync dialogue, etc. It’s not quite as amazing in these clips, but if you saw the whole thing your jaw would drop. Some of the stuff they do is hard to grasp in these quick clips, but for example, a club is sitting on the ground, and one guy hits it with his other club as he walks by, and it bounces up into the air, completely accurately into the other guy’s already-in-progress juggling pattern, which he incorporates it into. Likewise, a completely blind throw behind his back as one guy is walking away goes seamlessly back into the pattern of the other guy. (That throw is at about 0:59 in the second clip)

I have the whole thing on DVD so after the new year when I have a Cleveland area Dopefest/Rock Band Party/Whatever fest at my house, anyone who comes can watch it. It’s about 10 minutes long.
*well, one of them did steal my shoe while the other valiantly tried to defend me…

The Japanese Navy (sorry, Maritime Self Defense Force) last year managed to produce what is probably the gayest (as in flamingly homosexual, not uncool) military recruiting commercial ever. This is not a parody video, I actually saw it air on TV.

All aboard the Seaman Ship!

Why does it use the pre-WWII flag?

Husband and I watched this like five times last night. In the beginning I was unimpressed - by the end, I had to pick my jaw up off the floor!
