New feature.. Would help..

On another board I go to, which uses Vbullitin, whenever you hover over the link for a thread it gives you the first paragraph, basically telling you what’s inside.
Can we activate this feature on this board?

Why? You only need click the thread title, take a peek, then move on if you want to.

It’s not a feature that can just be activated at-will, it’s a hack/modification of the code. Unless it is a feature of 3.0, which is still only a beta product.

It would help for those on 56k. Save them time from clicking and waiting for a thread, clicking on another thread and wasting their time on a subject they dont wanna read about.

Bah. No one with a 56k modem should be allowed to complain until I start. I’m still using a 14.4 and will be until I can afford a new computer.

Hell, I 'm on DSL, and it can take a while for this place to load up. And if you tack on one paragraph per thread in the forum index, it’d take even longer. Better just to be picky.

Plus hacking the vB, like this seems to be, will void the warranty provided by vB, so they won’t even lend us a superhamster once in a while when a bunch of ours drop dead.

Kat- for quite a while, I dialed the public library through VT 102, and used their 9600 connection with a Lynx browser via proxy.

Reminds me of this bit from the Page of Funnies (originally from here):

Probably not, actually. That information still has to get to you somehow. Either it retreives it only when you mouseover, in which case you’d have to wait a while to see the paragraph anyway, or it pre-retrieves the first paragraph of every thread on the page, in which case you’d have to wait to get the first paragraph of every single thread before being able to read any of them.

Besides, the admins could put the extra bandwidth to better use by putting up a large .gif animation of Cecil doing a strip-tease. That’d make this joint workable as a pay-site !
