It does look smaller than this lizard curled up on a dime.
The group Yes had a song with mention of another Schindleria species, S. praematurus. I always wondered why they’d sing about a fish so small, but their lyrics make no sense. And now this fish is even smaller!
[sad gibe] Actually, it can grow to a size of three feet and forty pounds, but they’ve been severely overfished of late. [/sg]
After seeing the picture I wanted to say “ahhhh, what a cute little fishy”
But I can’t because it looks like a sperm.

I wonder whether this will stop the Kiwis complaining about our unsatisfactorily large whitebait. 'though if they’ve only hauled in five of the suckers since 1979 it’s going to be pretty light even for an entree.
Hooray for misreading the thread title! I saw it as “… the world’s smartest vertibrate.” And thought to myself, “Now, that really is something.”
