FINALLY, almost five years since her last album Warrior was released, Kesha is releasing Rainbow next month! For reasons related to being stuck with a Major League Rapist Asshole as her producer (see this thread), Kesha wasn’t allowed to release any new music since her single “Timber” with Pitbull in 2013. Now is finally the time! Her new single “Praying” was released today.
It will be great to hear Kesha on the radio again. Top 40 music over the last couple of years has been abominable. I’m so sick of hearing Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, and the Chainsmokers every time I tune into top 40 stations. Hopefully Kesha will start a renaissance in top-40 music, and it’ll be fun again.
Another single just came out today, “Woman.” It knocked me on my buttocks the first time I heard it. It is a very fun, uptempo song, and it has horns from the Dap-Kings.
Rainbow came out yesterday, and it is terrific! It is getting an 82 score (“universal acclaim”) on Metacritic. Obviously I love all 14 tracks, but the ones that really stood out for me the first time I heard them are the aforementioned “Woman,” “Rainbow,” "Boogie Feet (featuring The Eagles of Death Metal), and “Spaceship.” Many of the songs have a folksy quality that reminds me of her pre-fame work from c. 2005 (e.g., “Goodbye”).
