New kitten pics, get them while you can!

Ever since my cat Roscoe disappeared last July, I have been considering getting another cat. I stepped up the search the past few weeks but it appears there is a strong demand for kittens right now. Today my daughter Amber stopped by and presented me with Trixie. Sheappears to be a siamese mix. Gracie, my 15 year old cat doesn’t know what to make of her yet.

Ickle bitty ki’en! Squee!

OMG! Cuteness! She’s beautiful. Gracie will get over it; mine always do.

Well, she can make a hat, or a brooch, or a pterodactyl!
Squee for the new kitteh! And hug for Gracie! Go & love your new lil’ sister!

sssoooooo cute!

looks like a tabby- siamese to me. it will be fun watching her colours come in.

Squeee! Kitten!

One way you can tell if she’s a Siamese mix is to look at the color of her eyeshine. That’s that glow cats’ eyes get in reflected light- I’m sure you’ve seen it if you have had cats for a while. Most cats’ eyes will have blue-green eyeshine. Siamese blue eyes will have red eyeshine. The Siamese gene is a form of an albino gene, and Siamese cats don’t have the pigment on the tapetum at the back of their eyes that most cats do.

If your cat has blue eyes and red eyeshine, it has Siamese blue eyes, and is a Siamese mix. If it has normal blue-green eyeshine, it might still be a Siamese mix, but it doesn’t have Siamese blue eyes.

My Luna is a Siamese mix, has blue eyes, and her eyes shine red. My Katya has normal blue-green eyeshine.

Hee! Little kitten pic made me involuntarilly say, “Oh! Hi little kitty!”

You know it’s a keeper when that happens.

(Slightly off-topic- when I was young, I loved cats (still do), but we couldn’t have one because my mom was allergic. When I was a teen, I worked in my dad’s veterinary office. We had a deal with the local humane society in which we’d take one animal a month and try to find it a good home. Month number 3 was an adorable little kitten. I’d go in each morning and feed it and change its litter and tell it I’d love to adopt it, but I couldn’t. One day I’m having a really bad day, and cleaning some cages. Kitten is meowing at me. I tell it I don’t have time for it. It continues to meow, so I reach into the cage and scritch its nose slightly. I’m about to go back to cleaning cages, and it reached out and patted my nose with it’s little paw! I told it, ‘You’re too cute! I must keeeeell you now!’ at which point, it flopped on its back and flailed in a very kitten-ish way. Not a month goes by that I wish we could’ve adopted the little bugger. Enjoy your kitty, and give it a good nose-scritch for me!)
