SDMB member’s child: “[Daddy|mommy], why is the sky blue?”
SDMB parent: “You’ve got confirmation bias. You’re only noticing the sky when it’s blue. Sometimes it’s grey, sometimes it’s dark blue, sometimes it’s blue with white clouds, sometimes it’s black, sometimes it’s orange or red on the horizon during a sunrise or sunset. We live here in Upstate New York, and the sky is blue only about 60 days a year, during the daytime.”
SDMB member’s child: “I HATE YOU, [DADDY|MOMMY]!”

No, no, no.
“Daddy, why is the sky blue?”
SDMB Parent: “Because Barack Obama made it that way.”

Shodan

Child: Then why does it rain?
Parent: Because George Bush, that’s why.
Ferret_Herder:
Dude, you were ‘right’ in that she wasn’t exactly held down and penetrated, but the guy did try to kiss her when she was falling-down-drunk, intermixed with hazy memory periods, and she remembers shoving him off her and yelling at him. Oh, and him asking her if she was OK? The guy who sexually assaulted me did something quite similar. The comparison in the original thread to an abuser in a relationship was pretty apt. So she wasn’t raped, but the dude who ‘helped’ her in isn’t looking like a peach either. Yeah, it wasn’t a premeditated drugging and rape, but attempting to take advantage of a girl who gets hit hard by drinking isn’t total exoneration, and I don’t blame her for her feelings.
I even thought you had some points in your original post, if (in your typical fashion) very bluntly phrased, but geez, man.
Thanks, Ferret Herder . I tried posting stuff to this effect in the other thread. But the overwhelming response seemed to be, “Glad it turned out so well!” Which kind of disturbed me. In what universe is what happened to her a good thing just because he didn’t go through with it?
She wasn’t raped. He didn’t violently assault the guy and go to prison for a stupid assault and battery,
That’s as good as it gets. And as good as could be hoped for given the initial cirsumstances.
It should be noted, however, that he’s been known to relish provoking dopers he finds overly sensitive, then invoking Cold Hard Reality, aka That’s Just The Way It Is, when called on it.

First of all, Heckity didn’t seem all that sensitive about the points he brought up and second that was the way it was.

Shouldn’t overly sensitive dopers take some responsibility for posting their overly sensitive issues in IMHO?
Happily, that’s not what happened in this case.

Also find it quite tasteless when the first response to someone saying their (pretty much) daughter in law is raped, is questions about wther she didn’t just make it up.
The first response? Have you read the thread? Post #2.

I will endeavor to spend more effort in not shattering the bizarre fantasy worlds people build for themselves.
