I think this is pretty cool. I’m not really a big NIN fan–can’t hang with the overwhelming negativity–but I do respect Trent Reznor as an imaginitive and talented guy, particularly in the realm of audio production.

Which is why I think it’s great that he has made the multitracks of his new single available for free download. You need Apple’s GarageBand, which comes with most new Macs (and if you don’t have it, it’s part of the iLife 05 bundle which is $80, easily a bargain for GarageBand alone).

And then you can remix the tune, solo tracks, apply bizarre processing to them–just generally play record producer for a day.

Yeah, I heard today they’re playing in Atlanta in May. Right around the time I have to be somewhere else. But I think Reznor’s given us more good stuff.

People need to convert those multitracks to give us PC morons a shot, too.
