I just saw what I believe is the latest Flo commercial. It’s a dinner table setting with 4 characters plus Flo. But it looks to me like she’s playing all the parts in different makeup. I had to watch it three times to be sure. Very clever.
I’m pretty sure she is as I think that’s supposed to be at her family’s Thanksgiving gathering.
I like all of these, it’s rare they come up with a new and interesting commercial concept. They do a great job with the makeup and “Flo” does a great job with all the characters, too. I think the only one she doesn’t play is the baby Todd is holding.
It really made me study the faces and listen to the voices.
I wonder what the actress who plays Flo thinks of her career.
On one hand, she’s very famous and gets to play some modestly interesting roles and must make a ton of money.
On the other hand, she’s completely typecast and not doing much else in terms of acting.
I was thinking of other semi-famous pitchmen (persons) and I’m struck by the success of ‘Mac’ and ‘PC’. Both John Hodgeman and Justin Long have gone on to have great careers. I have to think they’ve beaten incredible odds (I’m looking at you “Dude, you’re getting a Dell” guy).
According to her Wikipedia entry, you are wrong. Sure, she’s not the lead in any Hollywood blockbusters, but it seems to me she’s got plenty of gigs. Not to mention she’s a member of the Groundlings.
Really? They all look and sound just like Flo to me. I hate these commercials. One Flo is one too many.
Yeah, I listened to an interview with someone else who’s part of the groundlings and they mentioned her in particular as being in a sweet spot where she’s got a well-paying solid gig that meets her financial needs and the time and recognition to basically do whatever indie or artistic stuff she wants.
Notoriously unreliable sources on the internet say she is getting $500k a year for what is basically a part time job. I don’t think it is going to hurt her in the long run. She looks very different without the Flo hair and make up. And as mentioned above she tends to not be involved in overly commercial endeavors any way.
