Has anyone seen this show on A&E? I saw it last night as I was working late and, well, it’s not like anything I have seen.
It involves a car dealership in Las Vegas. It focuses on the owner and his sales crew. The owner is as tacky and slimey as you would imagine. It seems that he runs these over the top infomercials which resulted in his own show.
First of all, the show just reeks of desperation. They seem to start off every day with the salesmen with a cultish “ra ra” get out and sell session. Then, the salesmen (no women that I saw) are unleashed to stand around and wait for “ups” (customers) to show up.
The dealership has a dunk tank, a sales gong and other awful pieces of paraphenalia that let you know you are in tacky hell. The owner also seems to delight in pitting his sales people against each other. This includes degrading contests (loser has to dress like a showgirl on the infomercial).
It also doesn’t appear that the customer gets a very good deal. That might just be the editing but it looks like these people pay list or near list price!
Would love to hear the thoughts of someone who works or has worked in the industry.
Is this based on the documentary (I think it was called) “The Slasher”. It’s about a car salesmen who is sent to struggling dealerships to raise sells with his wacky promotions and gimmicks. I’ve only heard the radio ads but that’s what it reminded me of and the dealership owner sounds like the guy from the film.
I think it is, yes. It appears that he owns this one though.
Saw it. Freaked me out. This is the kind of guy Who’s a walking billboard for white leather belts and matching shoes. And don’t skimp on the bad plaid.
I think they said that place was the #1 car dealer in the country on sales, sells like 500-700 a month. The guy has supposedly been running infomercials in Vegas a while.
Show has certain bizarre appeal, but I doubt it runs more than a few episodes before it gets stale.
I’m glad this thread came up. I’ve seen the commercials for the show often enough, but I for the life of me could not figure out what the hell the show going to be about. Nor was I going to watch it, but this solidifies it.
Nope, it’s a different guy. From what I understood about “The Slasher” he was a hired gun that dealerships used on a short term basis to host special sales “events” and get sales up.
This guy is a Las Vegas dealership owner who apparently believes his own hype. From what I could tell from the few minutes I saw he didn’t actually do any work, he just pitted his sales teams against each other.
(and the “King of Cars” has about 200 pounds on “The Slasher”)
My husband made me sit through an hour of this crap last night. Ugh - reminds me of American Casino (the way it’s shot, the production, etc.) - which I also hate.
