They’ve tried jumping into the past and it sucked even harder.
I am on Direct tv. …and I just wanna watch Star Trek…dammit…I don’t care what century or what time dimension or how it relates to other treks…I am fairly certain they will have a creative way to fix the time questions…I just wanna see it!!
I think either past or future can be done well. But if you’re (the generic you) gonna get hung up on seamless tie-in with other iterations, you’re going to turn off most of the new viewers. Do they make Klingons look like Klingons in TOS or NG?
Good writing and good acting are going to be good no matter what the stardate.
FWIW There is a Novel series which is Post Enterprise chronicling the early years of the Federation and the explanation they came up with was a change back to switches and buttons was a reaction to the Romunlans taking over vessels remotely during the series Enterprise and the Romulan War. Having actual switches made that more difficult. I thought it was a clever idea.
They ripped off Battlestar Galactica, IOW.
Even then they couldn’t resist bring back characters from TOS. McCoy had his cameo* in Encounter at Farpoint; Spock, Sarek, & Scottie all guest starred prominently in episodes.
- I wonder if they’re going to have the traditional cameo from the preceding series in the pilot. T’Pol seems like the most logical candidate for this given that she’s the ENT character most likely to still be alive and this show’s main protagonist has a lot of ties to Vulcan.
So we’ve heard that “The producers are keenly aware of some elements of the show have not been mentioned before in other series” Namely Sarek’s adopted daughter.
And there’s a spoiler Frakes gave about where a future ep takes place.
Put those together,
Here’s another theory I just thought of…The lead First Officer of Discovery is Majel Barretts Number One seen on The Cage. Which would explain Barretts acting so emotionless. Yes they don’t look the same but so what.
Signed up for CBS All Access. Yep, they got me.
The next Gen was a very god show. This new show won’t come close, that much I am sure of
I wouldn’t go so far to say TNG was a Diety :), but it was much better than simply dismissing it because of Wesley and Guinan. TNG was seven years of mostly good episodes, and it led to Deep Space 1999. Oh, and Voyager. Still, the future was pretty bright, overall.
I just signed up for CBS All Access.
And one of my cousins is complaining, " I’m sick of cultural diversity. There should be more of my (white) people on this show."
Well, to be fair, most shows handle “diversity” about as well as newborn handles colic.
We gonna start a new thread?
Saw the Emergency Awesome review…looks surprisingly good, and its pretty funny when you match still ups against TNG, cause holy crap the production value of Discovery. And Sarek was in the movie Titus right? I liked him a lot so i think well see good things out of him.
Premier on tonight (Sep 24). Possibly pushed to a later time due to the football games on CBS (would they shorten “60 Minutes”?)
Brian
I hate to say it, but IMHO the ST universe had already been thoroughly explored several series ago. I’m gonna have to pass.
My take:
Not a fan. A really good opening that felt like the original (plus good reviews by people who want what I want) may have pulled me in.
Also just learned this is actually airing at a set time on this CBS Go thing. That seems bizarre. How many cord cutters actually stream TV? Don’t most of us watch on demand?
“This video is not available.”
Have they taken it down already?
Yeah I’ll Start one.
