True. But the US public at large will believe that he really did it and it really worked. That’s the only truth that matters politically.

The issue (to me) is not whether trump remembers. As you say he will not.
The issue is whether the public will fondly remember this “pardon” as another instance of “dictator trump triumphs over the corrupt legal process” and also fondly see this as further proof of the stolen election narrative. I think a hefty fraction do/will believe that. And believe that RW dictatorship is the best way to run things.
That’s the danger.
