NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 4)

Yes, but that baby also happens to be Vice President of the United States.

If you have to work seven days a week to keep your business going, unless you’re a sole proprietor either you’re incompetent or you’ve hired an incompetent staff. Or both.

If you’re a relentless shark whose only goal is mo’ money and mo’ powah, then yes, every second you’re awake all you do is think about more ways to labor in service of your obsession.

But the fix for that is psychiatric care, not trying to convert everyone else to your personal flavor of mania.

And let’s not forget, CEO types consider everything they do to be “Business”. Dinner with employees, clients, other CEOs? Business. Flying in your private jet? Business. Golfing with the Congressperson? Business. Sitting and thinking about anything at all related to business? Business. Their “working every day” is not like our “working every day”.

As unintentional as I know this is, it could easily describe the total grip of insanity that the country currently finds itself in. America as a bipolar nation.

And I lived in Florida when Rick Scott was governor. He’s a soulless, broken shell of a human being with only the basest, most venal motivations. ( Sound like anyone else you know?)

The idea that he views workers as automatons, and not as human beings first, fits with what I know of him. Sure, let’s roll back labor laws 100+ years, that’ll work. We’re rolling everything else back, why not? We’re in a new age of Robber Barons, it only makes sense.

100 years? More like 4000.

MAGA pro golfer gets a two-stroke penalty in a tournament at St. Andrews, holds up the event for an hour demanding that Donald Trump intervene and retract his penalty.

That’s the first I heard of him asking for Trump to intervene. I couldn’t stand him before, now I absolutely detest him.

The penalty turned his 66 into a 68 and dropped him from solo second to tied for fifth, CBS Sports reported

If only a transgender athlete were tied with him.

That’s why I’ve been mulling over what future historians will call this era. Gilded Age II* would serve but from what little I know about that era we’ve exceeded the venal, casual corruption of that time. We need something like Sinclair’s The Jungle to galvanize the population but that’s hard to do with Tik Tok sized sound bites.

*I’ve pointed out before I was embarrassingly old before I figured out that term was not a compliment.

Delayed it for an HOUR? Kick him out. Play with out him.

Best encapsulated by the Throne of Ankh-Morpork, from the Discworld books. The Throne is, of course, solid gold… but when viewed from behind, not only is the wood underneath the gold most of the structure, but it’s mostly rotted away, leaving only a thin shell of gilt that would collapse if anyone ever touched it.

He didn’t sign his scorecard for over an hour, thus delaying every golfer who finished after him. He didn’t really hold up play, but he did prevent the golfers from leaving the clubhouse.

'F em then. What’s wrong with these people?

Funny enough, he threatened to quit over it.

DeChambeau was reportedly so upset that he threatened to not return to play the next day.

Damn. They should have accepted his resignation from the tournament immediately.

What was the original penalty for?

Not a golfer, so I don’t know all the rules well, but from what I had heard on the radio it had to do with the way he was walking around; he inadvertently trampled the grass in such a way that it could be argued that it made things easier.

It’s the kind of thing that sometimes happen to golfers, and you take the penalty and complain about it later to not cause a disruption. What made this different was the way he made a scene about it and made threats.

I found an article that talks about it a little:

DeChambeau appeared to trample down long grass as he addressed his ball for a practice swing.

“Even when the action is accidental, as it was in Bryson’s case, the area of intended swing includes the entire area that might reasonably affect any part of the backswing, the downswing or the completion of the swing for the intended stroke,” added the R&A.

“Importantly what the prohibited action here is that the player mustn’t move, bend or break any growing or attached natural object.”

“Bryson has been penalized two strokes for inadvertently improving the area of his intended swing,” R&A executive director of governance Grant Moir said. “I would reiterate: This rule applies even when there’s no intention to improve the area, as was the case with Bryson.”

Bullshit sports have bullshit rules.
