FWIW, I use Ghostery to shut off most of the analytics, trackers and beacons. I’ve not experienced this zapping thing, also, the page finishes loading and doesn’t sit there spinning indefinitely sometimes like on my cell browser (which doesn’t have Ghostery).
Zapped just now.
It’s not the worst problem ever, but it does suck and makes reading and navigating the site super frustrating, especially since it’s at least once a week.
And zapped again, for the second time in two days.
Yesterday I was zapped at home using Firefox. Right now I’m on a friend’s computer, and he doesn’t even have Firefox, so this time I’m zapped on a different computer and using IE.
Actually it’s been several times this week. The frequency is definitely picking up, and on different computers and browsers. I just don’t believe the problem is on my end.
And zapped again. Second time today. Back home now and back on Firefox.
And zapped again. First time in four days.
Just happened. Went from MPSIMS to IMHO and my last visited reset itself to today at 12:01 PM.
New problem: I cannot subscribe to the We need more than 5 minutes for edit!!! thread in ATMB. I’m supposed to be subscribed automatically to any thread I post in, but that didn’t work this time. And I tried going into Thread Tools and clicking on Subscribe to This Thread, but still no dice.
This has happened to me once or twice over the years. Very rare but here it is again.
When something really weird and out of the ordinary happens like this it tends to be a browser issue. And in a lot of cases – like in almost all cases where this kind of wacky thing goes on, rebooting your system usually fixes the situation and things go back to normal.
Did you try that in this case? Is this situation still persisting even in the face of a system reboot?
I agree. It’s generally not even worth asking the question until you have rebooted.
As for the larger issue, I think we can merge Sam’s accounts back together. That isn’t the issue. I’d wait for a consensus before doing it though.
Agreed. I was thinking about posting this the other day - I think we’ve learned what we can from this experiment, which is that it isn’t tied to the account itself.
Somewhere between the Pit and MPSIMS, my last visited went from yesterday at 7:21 PM to today at 10:46 AM, then when I tried coming to ATMB to report that I started getting 503 errors.
Everything seems really slow this morning…
Same slowness here, coupled with “503” reports for both the board and the main site.
Did SiamSiam22 get a new username because he was getting zapped so many times? And people wouldn’t open threads anymore because at least on that topic his posts began to … fail to grip, shall we say.
I thought getting new usernames was an unspeakably impossible thing here.* Unless it’s a different guy, with different eggs.
In which case, howdy.
*If so, never mind.
Page sat spinning it’s wheels loading on Safar/iPad this morning. Switched to minimal internal browser of 1Password, in like Flynn.
Ah. It’s discussed and announced in a different thread. (Cite needed.)
Hard to keep track of the players without a scorecard. I don’t mean to be a pain, but I think that action, and the relevant back story, should have been posted by the Mods as a unique thread–the same way administrative announcements are made about who gets banned, etc.
Particularly considering the enduring interest/importance of the topic in so many threads–such as this one–and that mods and Jerry Himself, I presume, took made such a rare action. I mean, it was a drift even in that thread.
Good luck with your new persona, SiamSiam.
Yes, I not only tried once, I’ve tried several times in several sessions. But I tried again just now, and now it works! Weird. But it only worked once I posted in it again – clicking yet again on Subscribe to This Thread under Thread Tools didn’t work.
It’s discussed in this thread too, from about post #79.
Zapped again. This time I am at a different location in Bangkok, I am using a different computer, and I am using IE instead of the normal Firefox that I use at home.
Zapped again. This time at home on my regular PC and using Firefox. I did not get zapped this morning my time, so that’s two zaps in three times over two days, using different browsers on different computers at different locations.
