And zapped again.
Between the Pit and MPSIMS, my last visted went from 10-17-2014 at 03:37 PM to today at 11:47 AM. That’s rather annoying.
Could be that another program I’m using is doing something funky to my browser between forums and that’s what is causing my last visited to reset rather than something to do with the board itself.
Let’s go ahead and merge your user names together – as has been pointed out, the testing has done all it can.
So this is some sort of server issue? I’m not at all sure how to approach this. or what to do about it.
I have to admit, all this is not my field of expertise and I ask those of you who might know something to please come and share and comment, enlightenment would be useful.
I hadn’t thought of that, another program resetting you … what would do that?
At th is point just WAGging, sorry to say.
So they’ll be merged as Siam Sam, yes?
It’s outside of my area of expertise for sure at this point and I am out of ideas as well.
Yes, you’re going back to what you wuz. So stop using the extra name, thanks.
Appreciate your help. We deeply appreciate the time and assistance of everyone who has weighed in on this issue.
This is really a situation way over my head and I’m not ashamed to admit it, what I don’t know about server architecture and etc. is a lot. I just wish I could do more.
Investigation will continue as we can but I’m afraid for the time being there’s no good solution. I regret that and I will continue to look for a better outcome on this.
You don’t have to further report “zaps” unless they’re happening like every five minutes all day every day or otherwise show evidence of a situation going Dixie. We are aware of the problem, just clueless for a solution right now. The search continues.
Part of my job requires a lot of proofreading in MS Word and I come here to break up the monotony. I’ve noticed that there are times when I tell Word to do something between webpages and my browser gets its recent history reset, as if I opened the browser on the current page.
Since it affects many people with (presumably) widely varying setups, that seems unlikely.
While it may not be necessary, I think the reports still serve a purpose. We don’t know what data point will turn out to be important. Also, we’ve had a few people pop up in this thread realizing that they have the same problem. This means we have the opportunity to get fresh perspective on the problem. I’d prefer for this thread not to sink too far, and lose the opportunity for new people to jump in.
Ooh! Fresh perspective! How timely.
How long are you in Word when this happens? Superficially, it seems more likely that it’s a timing issue, and you’re just spending time doing something. Kinda like taping the top of a soda can to prevent it from overflowing when you open it.
Okay. This will be my final session as SiamSam222. (And final data point: I didn’t get zapped this time.)
I don’t know if any useful information was gleaned from doing this, but I appreciate the effort and do plan to reup my subscription. Odd these things seem to be happening only to this Board. But I know you’ve tried to find out the cause.
So after I log off here, please merge all of these with my regular Siam Sam account, if you would.
Okay, I’m back! And Siam Sam I shall ever be from this point forward.
I think we’ve shown that the problem is unlikely to be related to specific accounts. We suspected that, but when none of the data really makes sense, you have to question and prove out your assumptions.
We also have a lot of data that says users browsing patters, browser, and OS don’t seem to matter.
I’m running out of theories that don’t involve server synchronization. But since I know nothing about VBulletin - I haven’t run a message board since the 80s, and it was a very different world then - I’m also not sure where to take the investigation.
And now if someone could merge me and SiamSam222?
Word is pretty much always open when I’m working. Yesterday it had been open for approximately one hour and 15 minutes.
These things seem to be happening to me only between tabbing from my browser to Word, telling Word to do something, and tabbing back to my browser.
BTW: my work computer uses IE. Firefox or Chrome, not sure which, are also installed but they don’t play well with our intranet.
I almost never have Word open, so it’s not an issue in my case.
Yeah, this particular issue might be specific to only me and my work computer. Don’t recall it ever happening on this one.
The search is still “zapping” me. I’ll search for the first time that day, and it’ll tell me I have to wait so many seconds. I wait that time…then it tells me I have to wait the full 120 seconds, then whatever.
