Watched Brooklyn 99. Two conclusions: Andy Samberg’s character is an asshole, and not even a charming one and Andre Braugher more than makes up for it.
I watched the first five minutes of The Goldbergs and had no desire to watch any more of it. A bad Malcolm in the Middle rip-off.
Trophy Wife was okay. Not great but watchable. I’ll give it a wait-and-see rating.
Completely agree on both counts. I actually gave the Goldbergs ten minutes because I was distracted and because I’ve been seriously nostalgic for the Wonder Years lately, but no dice.
Read a funny quote from Malin Ackerman. She was being interviewed back when Watchmen was released and said, “I tend to get a lot of scripts in which people want me to play the trophy wife, which is frustrating because I want the interesting, meaty roles.”
I LOVED dads. What the hell is wrong with me?
It’s a little rough around the edges. I hope they find their footing.
Brooklyn nine nine, I liked way more than I thought I would. I almost didn’t record it. I’m glad I did.
We stupidly watched the entire episode.
It is sometimes mystifying why shows like this get on the air. Did anyone read the script or see the pilot episode and say, “funny! Slap that puppy on the air!”?
Thousands of scripts and dozens of series pilot episodes, and THIS is one that made it through?
Too bad - a few of the actors have been in some great series - but hey, I guess they too have mortgages to pay. Still - even they have to have said, “Seriously - they picked up this piece of crap to air?”
Didn’t like the Goldbergs either. It seemed like it wanted desperately to be the Wonder Years. But it wasn’t. And am I the only one who thought they were bending over backwards to make damn sure we knew this was the 1980s? “the only one who understands me is Flava Flav!!” and stuff like that, especially in the first half of the show.
And it seems like it’s going to be one of those generic 80s shows where everything in the 80s happened all at once, in some unnamed year. REO Speedwagon, Flavor Flav, Rubik’s Cube, Voltron, Go-Bots, etc. were all at the height of their popularity at the same time.
It does its job, which is to space out the commercial blocks.
Lucky 7 was better than I thought, but then again, I also watched the entire episode of The Goldbergs and didnt’ feel any worse for it.
Eye candy. Caroline has the legs of a goddess and Max has a fabulous rack.
Dads sucked more than any show I’ve seen for some time. Absolutely no chemistry between the actors. Characters totally unbelievable. Although the slutty schoolgirl outfit was nice.
I agree (I also like the show). Andre Braugher is funnier playing it straight (no pun intended) than all the comedians in the cast.
I have no idea, because it is honestly maybe the worst sitcom I’ve ever seen. At the very least, the worst one I’ve seen since the '80s.
I saw both Blacklist and Hostages. Blacklist I found pretty silly, but, man, James Spader is fun to watch. I’ll probably watch more of it until the silliness outweighs the Spaderness.
Hostages seems to be taking last year’s “Last Resort” slot of trying to make high drama out of a conspiracy plot that is so convoluted that it will turn out that virtually every character is part of the conspiracy. And that when they finally get around to explaining the whole plot to the audience, none of it will make a lick of sense. And we all know how “Last Resort” ended. Or maybe it’s only me, which is a very bad sign for the series. I’ll keep watching this one too, just to see how far of the rails it decides to go. Sometimes shows that decide to cut all ties with reality can be entertaining.
Just saw BBC’s Atlantis. Mark Addy as Hercules, some generic handsome dude as Jason. Quite good, but needs polish.
Watched “Mom” yesterday - terrible. Really, really not good. I won’t be watching that again.
We watched parts of “Package Deal” and “We Are Men” - the first we turned off after 10 minutes, the second was okay, if not hysterically funny. Lots of star power in “We Are Men” - Jerry O’Connell, Tony Shalhoub, and Kal Penn are three of the four main guys.
How did Allison Janney get suckered into that? Anybody know? She can’t be desperate for work.
I caught the first two episodes of Michael J. Fox’s show. It wasn’t too bad. Somewhat annoying characters, because it’s a sitcom.
I also caught The Crazy Ones. I tuned in to watch the disaster in the making. As expected, Robin Williams doing over the top schtick. I did enjoy their stupid McDonalds song trying to make a sex song for Kelly Clarkson. It was a hoot watching her sing “It ain’t the meat, it’s the motion”.
I was ready to dislike The Crazy Ones before I watched it. I laughed through the whole thing.
The Goldbergs had me ready to punch my TV. I agree with whoever wondered how this got made. None, absolutely none of it was even remotely funny. And if I knew the mother in real life, if have to kill her. Ditto for the oldest son, who doesn’t deserve any rite of passage except straight to the basement with some lube for his Cheetos. Creepy as all hell. Then I watched the closing credits and most of that shit was taken directly from the writer’s own family and their home movies. WTF? I’ve never wept for humanity, but I did then after I exorcized my DVR.
That’s funny.
I watched Trophy Wife last night and kinda liked it. I couldn’t remember where I’d seen Ackerman before. Looked it up. She was Juno on The Comeback, Lisa Kudrow’s very funny HBO series.
I don’t understand why her husband lets his ex-wives disrespect her, or why his teenage daughter doesn’t like her. The girl seems to be terrified of her mother, so I don’t get why she doesn’t give the dad’s new wife a chance. It’s been a year. Lighten up.
The first episode was horrendous, but I haven’t watched the second one yet because I don’t want to dislike anything Allison Janney does.
Blacklist was okay … I’m kind of played out on criminal/cop teamup shows, but a good friend of mine is actually working on this show, so I will continue to watch to support him.
I’m loving Sleepy Hollow for its crystal-clear self-knowledge. It knows what it is, and it uses that information. I am entertained. Same with Agents of SHIELD.
I laughed like a loon at Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I have never been a fan of Andy Samberg before, but this show is cracking me up for some reason.
I’m sure I’ll dump a few shows before November sweeps, but for now, I’m pretty okay with what I chose to watch.
