“The Diving Bell Vs. The Butter-glider”
Am I the only one hoping Sgt. Hatred gets blown up early in this season?
Nah, I love Hatred. He’s no Brock, but I’d hate to see him go away.
I’m pretty sure one of the creators had said something about “less Sgt Hatred” this season. I kinda though he was funny, myself, but I guess there was a lot hate for him (no pun intended).
I think part of it was that there was so much more of him, when he had not previously been a big part of the series, and a whole lot less Brock Samson. I know that if they suddenly had most of the rest of season 4 focus on Truckules or some other previously minor character, I’d be annoyed too.
Not bad at all.
“Honey, they’re henchmen. You don’t explain things to them. You say “Jump”, they say “What Shark?””.
I liked this episode a lot. The reveal of the old submarine (the X-3!) with the “sevens” dead inside was perfect.
I like Hatred, he is annoying but amusing, plus I half way wanna go as him for Halloween. Also he blatantly ignores the no firearm rule which is awesome, finally someone willing to pick up a gun and just shoot the enemy. The new episode is awesome, why, oh why do sundays have to be 7 days apart, its so looooong.
That was my favorite part. I love imagining the entire sequence of events that must have led up to the X-3 being where it was.
Yeah, and the whole “I was wondering what happened to them” bit. So, you did the whole ‘Fantastic Voyage’ thing before and just kinda…lost…the boys?
Loved the whole aphasia thing. What color is my tongue? Wednesday. Yeah yeah, they live next door. Can’t keep erasing their memories every other week.
Next week they finally graduate from Learning Bed version of High School. Good. I’m interested to see them trying to grow up and become adults.
My goddamn DVR cut off. If anyone spots it online or knows when it will re-air, let me know.
Gotta say, Sgt. Hatred was pretty damn competent when he realized the attack was on. Darted to kingdom come, he still got the alarm up and the gates down. The gates get blown and he (tries to) get to the panic room.
Also, I love Dr. Mrs. The Monarch just doing what it takes to get things done. You can tell she’s getting fed up and I’d bet things go south soon if there are any more Butter Glider incidents. Also, how awesome was 21 ordering her a drink? And calling her his “Primary.”
There were an awful lot of minions there. Does the cocoon have its own bar?
Yes, it does. In an earlier episode, a minion bartender made the mistake of trying to cut off The Monarch based on 21’s orders to close at a certain time.
I still love the show, but I’m really missing some of the more “mundane” humor of the first and second season (the yard sale, shopping for a “speedsuit”, 21 and 23 basically slouching their way through henching). For example, I thought the funniest part of the episode was the awkward party for King Gorilla (made even moreso by the Monarch’s gift–“Nobody told me…”).
IMO too much time is being spent on tangents like the inner workings of the Guild and S.P.H.I.N.X.–don’t get me wrong, I like the lisping Shore Leave, and the bit with sharing the submarine was OK, but can’t they find a better way to integrate these characters into the series? They also missed an opportunity with the henchmen potentially going on strike, wasting this idea on what turned out to be yet another abortive attack sequence. And I agree, less Hatred is a good idea. I don’t know why they haven’t used White and Quizboy more as foils for Rusty, but given their prominence in the last episode maybe that will change.
I’ve always thought the main themes of the series were how the inadequate Rusty Venture deals with his father’s larger-than-life legacy, and how the whole Jet Age vision of the future would play out after the real world has pretty much passed it by. When they stay close to these themes the show works well; when they dilute that with intrigue and action set-pieces, my interest starts to wane.
It wasn’t bad but I wish they’d focus more on the funny and less on the plot. In the past the best episodes where always 30 minute strung together one-liners. IMHO Tag Sale – You’re It! was one of the best and it was just a freakin’ yard sale.
I tend to agree. Season 2 was my favorite precisely because it was all stand-alone adventure stories in the Johnny Quest mold that it originally subverted. Then they went off on the whole story-telling meta plot thing.
I’m the opposite. My favourite aspect to the series is that it often has an overarching plot. Virtually no TV comedies even try at a multi-episode story arch, they’re pretty much all reset button shows. VB tries and succeeds. And it only helps to give the world and the humour more impact and cohesion.
Pomp & Circuitry, Episode 410.
Poor Brock, hands covered in all that Vatican Karate Gorilla blood. lol.
Hank passing every test, even foiling (haha) the mind erasing machine.
Damn you Stephen Colbert for not continuing to voice Professor Impossible.
Bill Hader did a passable impression, and given the post-credits scene it looks like we’ll be seeing more of Professor Incorrigible…Infamous…Indochina… (They’re all bit…forced).
